EHang provides aerial support to Guangzhou City in response to first community outbreak of Delta SARS-CoV‑2 variant
EHang has been using its autonomous aerial vehicle (AAV) technology to complete various tasks and missions in Guangzhou City, as the city gets put into lockdown in what is believed to be the first community outbreak of Delta SARS-CoV‑2 in China.
Guangdong Province had been reporting daily single figures of local cases, including asymptomatic cases, for more than a week at the start of June, until the case load suddenly jumped to 23 at the start of June. Hundreds of flights have since been cancelled and authorities have forced residents in some streets of the Liwan neighbourhood of the city to isolate.
With this increased pressure and challenges brought to the community, EHang has been deploying its 216 and 216L since June 4th, as well as its Falcon B series for epidemic prevention and control efforts. The 216 and 216L AAVs built emergency air transportation routes across the Pearl River in Guangzhou, completing multiple contactless relief and support tasks in the quarantine and containment zones.
Tasks covered aerial logistics, emergency transportation, aerial inspections and broadcasting. Also included in the tasks were transporting necessary household supplies to residents in the quarantine zones and implementing urban air mobility systems in emergency transportation scenarios.
Going forward, EHang’s designated flight operations team will maintain its station near the quarantine and containment zones to continue with household and emergency supply air transport to reduce risks of front-line staff contacting the virus.
