AMSL Aero joins Greenbird’s Advanced Air Mobility platform and brings eVTOL manufacturer perspective

The Greenbird Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) industry collaboration platform has announced AMSL Aero as a founding ecosystem partner.

AMSL Aero is Australia’s leading eVTOL aircraft developer of the Vertiia aircraft, which is powered by electric battery and hydrogen to provide the fastest door-to-door passenger transport for distances up to 1000km.

It will transport up to six people and will have high built-in autonomy, with commercial production anticipated in coming years, from a design claimed to be one of the world’s most efficient and affordable eVTOL designs on the market.

AMSL Aero joins research institutions and industry experts Archerfield Airport Corporation, Griffith University, Skyports, Nautilus Aviation, Aviator Group and Aviation Projects.

Greenbird Managing Director, Sara Hales said: “We are pleased to have an Australian aircraft manufacturer join Greenbird and AMSL Aero, as this will contribute significantly to our understanding of the regulatory framework for aircraft certification and continuing airworthiness.

“Aircraft safety is critical to establishing community acceptance of AAM operations, and AMSL Aero’s vision to build a safe aircraft aligns closely with our values and vision for a robust and safe AAM ecosystem in Australia.”

In November 2020, Aeromedical charity CareFlight and AMSL Aero teamed up to launch a new eVTOL air ambulance service to tackle rural and regional healthcare inequality in the country.

Vertiia was officially unveiled at CareFlight’s hangar in Sydney, with support from the company’s project partners which include the University of Sydney, to form part of a $3 million Cooperative Research Centres Project grant from the federal government for a two-year collaborative project with the University of Sydney and autonomy and sensing specialists, Mission Systems.

Andrew Moore, Chief Executive Officer of AMSL Aero and inventor of Vertiia, said: “We are excited to be collaborating with Greenbird on the future of AAM in Australia in order to provide a network of experienced aviation leaders across the private and public sectors, who are committed, like AMSL Aero, to enabling the sustainable aviation sector in Australia.”

Led by trusted airport and aviation industry advisors, AVISTRA, Greenbird is dedicated to facilitating the entry and growth of the AAM industry in Australia.

Bringing together international expertise and knowledge and local supply chain partners, Greenbird will assist industry and government to work together to drive investment attraction, industry operationalisation, and local capability.
