Tailwind Air Announces First-Ever Seaplane Service to Washington DC
Seaplane operator Tailwind Air has announced a new destination to Washington DC, where travelers may fly nonstop directly from New York Skyport (NYS) to Washington DC’s College Park Airport in 80–90 minutes.
Tailwind will also offer one-stop flights from Boston Harbor’s Fan Pier Marina to Washington DC’s College Park Airport, with scheduled service to begin in September operated by a fleet of Cessna Grand Caravans featuring two experienced pilots able to land on water or at an airport.
Tailwind Air co-founder and director of scheduled services Peter Manice explained: “When factoring in the full journey of one hour and twenty minutes with no need to access congested airports on both ends, we offer the fastest, least stressful and premium way to travel between DC and Manhattan.”
College Park is a historic, uncongested airport 25 minutes from the Capitol, 18 minutes from Chevy Chase, 25 minutes from Georgetown, and 5 minutes from the University of Maryland. NYS is Manhattan’s dedicated seaplane base with a dedicated climate-controlled lounge for all passengers.
Tailwind Air CEO and cofounder Alan Ram added: “Bypassing the congestion of the northeast corridor between Boston and Washington, DC remains the core mission of Tailwind Air.
“This new DC service complements our existing service between Manhattan and Boston Harbor, as well as our numerous summer destinations in the Hamptons and Provincetown. Check-in cutoff is just 10 minutes prior to departure and the uncertainty of check-in, security, airport congestion, and drive time delays is eliminated.”
Tailwind Air operates staffed lounges in both Manhattan and Boston Harbor, while at College Park, travelers have access to a dedicated waiting room, wifi, refreshments and an outdoor terrace for amazing views of the historic airfield.
In December 2021, Tailwind Air became the exclusive launch customer for Airflow’s Model 200 floatplane in the Mid-Atlantic and New England region, after signing a deal with the eSTOL aircraft company for 20 aircraft.
