Flight Crowd announced this week, it has been chosen as a recipient of the “Reach for the Sky Challenge Fund”, organised by the Department for Transport (DfT) and UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), reports a press release. The purpose of the Challenge is to improve inclusion, diversity, and career opportunities within Aviation and attract under-represented groups to careers in Aerospace.
The release says, “Flight Crowd has designed a ‘Propel into Future Flight’ national program, set to empower young people aged 14–18 to pursue a career in Sustainable Aviation. The initiative will expose young people from across the UK to the Electric Flight industry, helping develop the future workforce through a range of interactive workshops and informative industry-led sessions.”
It goes on, “The program will ensure participants develop multiple technical and interpersonal skills, preparing them to make a real difference in their Aviation careers.”
The ‘Propel into Future Flight’ initiative challenges individuals to design and present an electric aircraft solution, developing problem-solving, computer modelling and team-working skills. This program is to provide students with a broad range of interests and backgrounds, the opportunity to experience drone flying, participate in an ‘assessment centre’ style task on future air traffic management, tailor their CVs, and learn from leading Air Mobility experts.
UK Transport Secretary, Mark Harper, commented, “Innovation propels Aviation and for it to face up to tomorrow’s challenges, it needs an open and diverse workforce that can bring fresh ideas and ways of working. Our Reach for the Sky Challenge Fund recipients will be key to that, inspiring the next generation into the sector and helping to build an Aviation workforce fit for the future.”
