Helisul Aviation to purchase 50 Moya eVTOLs

Helisul Aviation has signed a letter of intent to purchase 50 Moya Aero eVTOL, an all-electric autonomous cargo drone with a payload capacity of 200 kg and a range of 110 kilometres.

Helisul has been operating in Brazil for half a century and today has one of the largest helicopter fleets in Latin America with over 50 aircraft. Helisul Drones operates in highly specialised operations segments, which require sophisticated equipment and qualified personnel.

“We believe the Moya eVTOL will revolutionise freight transportation with greater agility and productivity. Moya’s high load capacity and flight range are perfect for this type of mission, not to mention that it is a clean flight, with zero carbon emissions,” said Helisul executive superintendent Humberto Biesuz.

Moya Aero CEO Alexandre Zaramela concluded: “We designed the Moya eVTOL to meet a wide spectrum of logistics and agriculture uses. We aim to offer efficient cargo transportation with better economics and sustainable operation. It is the first vehicle developed in Latin America and a new means of logistics transportation.”

Moya’s prototype will fly by the end of 2023 with the first Moya eVTOL expected to enter into service by the end of 2025.

“The Moya eVTOL perfectly complements our drone fleet strategy, operating at a unique payload and range level. In addition, we are development partners, collaborating from the operator’s point of view,” said Lucas Fontoura, head of the UAS Division at Helisul Drones.

Moya Aero, founded in 2020 by Alexandre Zaramela and Renata Paolillo, is a spin-off of ACS Aviation, Brazil’s leading aeronautical engineering, research, and aircraft development entity in the heart of Latin America’s industrial corridor, São José dos Campos. The company claims its eVTOL is the first high-capacity all-electric autonomous vehicle built in the Southern Hemisphere.

In February, Moya Aero was awarded a $2 million grant to continue work on developing its eVTOL from the FINEP, a Brazilian government organisation that promotes science, technology, and innovation.
