Former Wisk CEO Gary Gysin joins Airspeeder as Board Member

Airspeeder has announced Gary Gysin, the former CEO of autonomous eVTOL aircraft developer Wisk, is joining the company as a board member.

With a distinguished career in the aviation and technology industries, Gysin brings a wealth of experience and expertise to further drive the advancement of eVTOL technology and autonomous flight.

Airspeeder, led by visionary founder Matthew Pearson, is poised to revolutionise aerial mobility through flying car racing. In bringing together cutting-edge technology, high-performance electric aircraft, and thrilling racing experiences, Airspeeder aims to accelerate the development of eVTOL technology and inspire the next generation of aviators and engineers.

As Airspeeder continues to pave the way for electric flying car racing, Gary Gysin’s insight and experience will undoubtedly contribute to the company’s growth and success in the rapidly evolving eVTOL industry.

Commenting on his new position, Gysin expressed his enthusiasm, saying:  “I am thrilled to join Airspeeder’s board and be a part of this exciting journey towards the future of mobility.

“Formula 1 racing and autosport racing of all forms has helped spur innovation and safety in consumer vehicles and Airspeeder is leading the way in eVTOL with its electric flying car racing approach. Joining the Board aligns perfectly with my passion for aviation and Formula 1.’

Gary most recently was the founding CEO of Wisk, a joint venture between the Boeing Company and Larry Page’s Kittyhawk. Prior to Gary’s retirement in February 2023, Gysin built Wisk into the market-leading self-flying, all-electric, four-seat air taxi, created the executive and development leadership teams.

He also set the strategic targets for the company, including the entry into service timing and city roll-out, launched the company’s commercial type certified aircraft development program, and closed more than $450 million in new financing capital.  Wisk recently became a wholly owned subsidiary of the Boeing Company.

Pearson, Founder of Airspeeder, added: “Gary’s expertise and forward-thinking approach to aviation and autonomy make him an invaluable addition to our board. We are excited to collaborate with him as we continue to push the boundaries of electric flight and redefine the future of transportation; his perspective on the future of the industry is key as we build a motorsport that has deep resonance with the wider market of OEMs crafting transformational electric aircraft.”

Airspeeder says it is committed to pushing the boundaries of electric flight and inspiring innovation in autonomous aviation. By combining cutting-edge technology, high-performance aircraft, and exhilarating racing experiences, Airspeeder is poised to revolutionie the future of transportation.

Airspeeder and Alauda Aeronautics — the company which designs, engineers and fabricates the racing craft for all Airspeeder events ‑operate on a global scale. The technical headquarters of the sport is located in Adelaide, South Australia, strategically positioned in close proximity to ideal testing grounds for a groundbreaking form of aerial mobility.

Airspeeder’s EXA Series served as the inaugural racing series from 2022, where remote pilots take the reins of the world’s first full-scale electric flying cars. This series serves as the crucible for technical development and pilot training, laying the foundation for the world’s initial crewed electric flying car races. The forthcoming crewed racing series by Airspeeder is set to take the global stage from 2024.

Spanning across various locations worldwide, this series marks a pivotal moment in pushing the boundaries of electric flight and revolutionizing the future of aerial mobility.

Airspeeder’s ethos is rooted in the belief that nothing propels technical advancement quite like competitive sports. This next-generation sport plays a role analogous to that of the Formula One pioneers nearly a century ago, acting as a driving force behind technical innovation and cultivating public acceptance for a new era of mobility revolution.

The eVTOL sector is on the cusp of reshaping urban aerial transport, global logistics, and even remote medical transportation with a zero-emission, clean-air aerial transport solution.
