Dufour Aerospace announced this week that German electric propulsion system manufacturer, Plettenberg, has been chosen as a supplier for the tail thruster propulsion unit of the uncrewed tilt-wing aircraft Aero2, reports a press release.
Simon Bendrey, Head of Design for Dufour Aerospace, commented, “Plettenberg offer a compact, high torque, electric motor which is perfect for the tail propeller on Aero 2. Coupling this with a lightweight and thermally efficient electronic speed controller (ESC) which fits nicely with the aircraft, Plettenberg has modified the motor unit to provide the system redundancy required for the continued safe flight of the aircraft.”

Bastian Greiner, CEO and Managing Partner of Plettenberg, added, “With our triple-redundant NOVA 15 LW motor, including three ESCs, with no single point of failure, we significantly improve the Aero2’s safety. The motor has been tailored for Dufour Aerospace and sets a new standard in the trade-off between performance versus robustness versus weight.”
Background
German-based Plettenberg is a leading developer and manufacturer of tailored electric propulsion systems for the UAS market. The company’s mission is to build the most rugged, but also lightest propulsion systems on the market.
As part of a customisation, Brushless DC Motors (BLDC) such as the NOVA 15 LW, will be tailored for the customer. The motor is then combined with an ESC as well as the propeller, to deliver a system solution which matches the customers’ requirements.
Next to propulsion systems, Plettenberg also provides starter-generator solutions as well as mission-critical accessories.
