Manta Aircraft Continues its Leadership Path in the AAM Industry
Italy-based Manta Aircraft first came to the media’s attention in 2021. Its plans to become a leader in the AAM Industry with an Evolutive Hybrid-Electric long range eV/STOL Aircraft is a noble pursuit with ambitions of using its ANN family (ANN2, ANN PLUS and ANN Drone) for a variety of purposes including personal, air taxi, medical, search and rescue as well as for carrying cargo. Therefore, it was of no surprise to learn the company was exhibiting at the recent Dubai Airshow, where its sleek and futuristic craft were on display.
: The ANN2 is “a speeder twin seater” for general aviation and multi-purpose utility missions. The carbon-fibre structure has a tandem-seat configuration. It is fast, small and agile.
: ANN PLUS also has a carbon-fibre structure with four to six seats for personal mobility and business travel, but adjustable for any cargo transport operations.
: ANN Drone can be controlled remotely or operated autonomously. Range, speed and climb performance is above average compared to its competition due to the design features and the advanced hybrid-electric propulsion.
Dubai was a great success for Manta, coming on the heels of other presentations at the Paris Airshow and more recently the Air Mobility Show at the Rome Exhibition Centre. This week the company tweeted it had signed an MOU with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office to bring its aircraft to the SAVI (Smart and Autonomous Vehicle Industry) cluster and establish a series of cooperations with stakeholders.
Based at Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, SAVI aims to position UAE’s capital city as a leading smart and autonomous vehicles hub. It will support innovation and the commercialisation of these technologies in the country, providing advanced facilities and value-added services within an enabling regulatory environment. A massive amount of money is being invested.
Launched in October, Ahmed Jasim Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, commented, “SAVI is projected to contribute Dhs90-120bn to the UAE economy and generate 30,000–50,000 jobs.”
Given the country’s determination and ambition to become a global leader in the AAM industry, this is a major deal for Manta Aircraft, for SAVI is highly exclusive and those chosen will, more than likely, be at the forefront of the impending green aviation revolution.
