China: VW-Backed Gotion “to Power EHang AAVs”

Chi­nese bat­tery mak­er, Gotion, is col­lab­o­rat­ing with EHang to devel­op pow­er prod­ucts for the com­pa­ny’s elec­tric autonomous aer­i­al vehi­cles (AAVs), reports chinadaily.com.

Gotion is backed by glob­al car man­u­fac­tur­er, Volk­swa­gen. The two com­pa­nies are to co-devel­op bat­tery cells, bat­tery packs, stor­age sys­tems as well as charg­ing facil­i­ties for EHang’s air­craft.

Based in Hefei and found­ed in 2014 by Zhen Li, Gotion is one of the lead­ing pow­er bat­tery mak­ers in Chi­na. Ger­man car-mak­er, Volk­swa­gen, is its major­i­ty stake hold­er. The ener­gy sup­pli­er has 45 employ­ees.

Gotion remarked that the deal with EHang marks an impor­tant step for the com­pa­ny to enter the Low-Alti­tude Civ­il Avi­a­tion Indus­try. EHang’s EH-216S AAV was award­ed the world’s first Type cer­tifi­cate by the CAAC in Decem­ber 2023.
