Chief Technology Officer, Alastair Macintosh, Steps Down from Lilium
Lilium surprised the eVTOL industry last week when news broke that the company’s Chief Technology Officer, Alastair McIntosh, is stepping down from his important role “to pursue new ventures”, reports a press release.
McIntosh joined Lilium in 2020. His leadership at the company was key in ensuring several successes, notably safely flying the transition phase and high-speed flight with Lilium’s technology demonstrators; overseeing the eVTOL through its preliminary and critical design reviews; and delivering EASA Design Organization Approval (DOA) in November 2023.
He writes on his LinkedIn page, “It is with a mix of emotions that I announce that I have decided to step down. Working with the Lilium team has been nothing short of inspiring. The journey we’ve embarked upon together has been filled with remarkable challenges and achievements.”
And continues, “It has been an honour to lead such a talented group of individuals who are committed to pushing the boundaries of what is possible and with whom I had the pleasure to achieve remarkable things.” Klaus Roewe, Lilium CEO, added, “I would like to thank Alastair for his significant contribution.”

Stephen Vellacott
McIntosh’s replacement is Stephen Vellacott, an experienced aerospace-chartered engineer with 40 years of industry experience, including senior engineering roles at Leonardo.
He joined Lilium in 2020 as Chief Development Engineer and two years later was appointed Chief Engineer. Vellacott is uniquely positioned to succeed in leading the engineering team as Lilium rapidly moves towards a first manned flight of its eVTOL Jet at the end of this year.
Roewe continued, “With Stephen’s vast aviation experience, I am confident that he will seamlessly transition into the role and strengthen our position as a leading company in electric air mobility.”
