SkyScape Partners with Unisphere “to Understand Weather Impact on Vertiport Development and Operations”
Asa Quesenberry, Founder and President of Japan-based SkyScape Vertiports, posted news this week on Linkedin of a new collaboration with Unisphere, a weather intelligence and data analytics solutions company.
Various articles posted on evtolinsights.com over the last year, show how weather conditions can have a major negative effect on vertiports. So this partnership makes good sense.
The two companies will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) “to better understand how weather conditions such as wind, temperature, icing and more, may impact specific locations in regards to vertiport development and operations,” explains the release. “The insight of which will then be developed into a standardised methodology for vertiport site assessment in the Japan and Asia Pacific markets.”
Quesenberry remarked, “For this industry to reach its true potential, we need to operate all the year around, regardless of the weather. Therefore, we must understand how it may impact operations at our facilities, so we can be prepared.”
He continued, “Japan is a good example as the country runs north to south and covers six different climate zones, therefore, experiencing a lot of different weather. Working with the Unisphere team will help us make sure the weather factor is planned from Day 1 at all Skyscape vertiport locations.”
Dr. Christoph Schlettig, co-Founder and CEO of Unisphere, added, “By combining our expertise, we can simplify the site evaluation, design and its development to ensure critical ground infrastructure can quickly be scaled and is in place when eVTOLs begin operations.”
The plan is “to pioneer a unique approach to vertiport development using facility building blocks via a set of ready-made units,” continues the release. “This infrastructure in a box approach empowers vertiport site developers by allowing a quick design and development of aviation facilities within the elements required for each unique-case.”

The aim is to develop sites that can support a high number of co-located services not limited to only eVTOL operations, but also first reponse, medical deliveries, security and more in the name of empowering communities through Advanced Air Mobility.
