FAA Accepts SkyDrive’s “Type Certification Application” for U.S
Japan-based eVTOL company, SkyDrive, announced this week it has submitted a Type Certificate application to the U.S Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) via Japan’s Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB), reports a press release. The application was accepted on April 29th.
To prepare for SkyDrive’s entry into the U.S market for commercial operations with its SD-05 eVTOL aircraft, the company established a local subsidiary last year. The release states, “SkyDrive is now actively collaborating with local customers to develop practical use cases and tailor its offerings to meet the unique needs of the American market.”
The company’s goal is to obtain FAA Type Certification (TC), building upon the anticipated JCAB TC in 2026 or later.
Tomohiro Fukuzawa, CEO of SkyDrive, commented, “Our team has been working on both aircraft development and type certification activities in parallel. We are very grateful to the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau for supporting our application and looking forward to a successful FAA type certification.”
He added, “This collaboration allows us to advance our certification processes in both Japan and the United States simultaneously.”
