Middle East: NextNorth Air Mobility Signs MOU with FlyNow Aviation “to Advance UAM Solutions in MidEast Region”

NextNorth Air Mobility, an airline specialising in air taxis, and FlyNow Aviation, an innovative developer of modular electric eCopters, recently announced a signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly advance Urban Air Mobility (UAM) solutions, with the focus on the Middle Eastern region, reports a press release.

The MOU is a direct outcome of collaborative discussions and engagements at the recent Autonomous e‑Mobility (AEMOB) event held in Doha, Qatar (April 30th to May 2nd).

NextNorth, aside from its role as an airline looking to operate air taxis in the near future, is also committed to designing, developing and operating UAM systems and technologies.

Meanwhile, FlyNow specialises in developing autonomous flying eCopters for carrying cargo and passengers. “The aircraft aims for quiet travel, energy efficiency, ergonomics, and cost-effectiveness, with plans for a hydrogen-powered version in the future,” continues the release.

Gema Ferrero Rubiera, CEO of NextNorth, commented, “This MOU marks a significant step forward in our mission to redefine urban transportation. By combining our expertise with FlyNow’s innovative eCopter technology, we are poised to make urban air mobility a reality, especially in the Middle East.”

The collaboration aims to develop turnkey solutions and establish a common understanding of future interactions between aircraft, air traffic management (ATM), UAM technology platforms and infrastructure. This is to be carried out alongside regulators, service providers and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) end-users.

Jürgen Greil, CEO of FlyNow Aviation, added, “We are thrilled to partner with Nextnorth to push the boundaries of urban air mobility. Our shared vision will drive the development of efficient, sustainable, and scalable UAM solutions, with a special focus on cargo applications.”

Founded in 2021, FlyNow’s eCopter has a flight range of 50 km plus a further 25 km for security reasons; can travel at up to 80 mph and offers science-fiction-looking travel that operates “at a sound level comparable to a dishwasher.” Both a single and twin seater craft will become available. The production of a cargo version (able to carry up to 200kg of weight) should be completed within 28 months. A passenger variant will follow soon after.

Yvonne Winter, co-Founder and COO of FlyNow, remarked, “We took inspiration from NASA’s Mars Helicopter, Ingenuity. The eVTOL’s highly efficient rotor system enables flight in atmospheres with lower density.”
