UrbanV, Korea Airports Corp Join Forces “to Develop AAM Ecosystem”
UrbanV, an Italian vertiport network operator and Korea Airports Corporation (KAC), an operative of 14 airports nationwide, have signed an agreement to develop an AAM ecosystem, reports a press release.
The partners will engage “in multiple joint activities as part of the collaboration including ecosystem creation, exchange of technical, operational and regulatory expertise as well as data,” explains the release.
UrbanV’s experience with regulatory matters, including collaborating to create the first Italian AAM regulation, alongside KAC’s Air-Corridor Services abilities, will contribute “to a strategic cooperation for the future design, construction and operation of vertiport networks,” continues the release.
Carlo Tursi, CEO at UrbanV, commented, “We aim to improve people’s lives by enabling a fast, efficient, safe and clean alternative to existing transport solutions for people and goods over short distances, by air.” He continued, “We have the ambition to become a major global operator of vertiport networks and look forward to exploring opportunities with KAC.”
Leveraging its aviation expertise, the South Korean company is developing an in-house Vertiport system and preparing Vertiport infrastructure for the nation’s first commercial AAM operations in Jeju Island and its Southern Coast Region.
The two companies intend to exchange data and best practices regarding Urban Air Mobility (UAM) activities and to access each other’s UAM ecosystems in order to provide tangible support for feasibility assessment and analysis with relevant stakeholders like air operators, site owners, industrial partners and regulatory bodies.
Jeong Ki Lee, Acting KAC President remarked, “I believe the strategic partnership with UrbanV is the first step in gaining recognition for Korea Airports Corporation technology and expertise in overseas markets. We will strive to enhance the competitiveness of our UAM-related technology by expanding overseas collaborations.”
The release concludes, “The partnership represents a key step towards the entry into service of Advanced Air Mobility. Mutual learning and benchmarking are strategic elements to enable safe, efficient and sustainable operations in city skies during the near future.”
