Joby Avi­a­tion and Toy­ota Motor Corps came togeth­er at Toy­ota’s Higashi-Fuji Tech­ni­cal Cen­tre (Shizuo­ka, Japan) to affirm their col­lec­tive pas­sion and ambi­tion for the future of air mobil­i­ty, reports a press release.

This VIP gath­er­ing includ­ed Jor­dan Bevirt, Founder and CEO of Joby and Akio Toy­o­da, the Chair­man of Toy­ota Group. The assem­bled audi­ence watched the U.S company’s N542JX eVTOL air taxi suc­cess­ful­ly make its first tri­al flight in Japan, to the back­drop of Mount Fuji.

An enthused Bevirt, right­ly proud of his aircraft’s “low acoustic foot­print”, told the audi­ence, “We share Toy­ota’s vision for the future of air trav­el and are hon­oured to have had an oppor­tu­ni­ty to present a glimpse of that future through our exhi­bi­tion flight in Japan.”

Hiro­ki Naka­ji­ma, Exec­u­tive VP of Toy­ota Motor Corps and Board Mem­ber, added, ”Air mobil­i­ty has the poten­tial to change our sense of dis­tance and time and open a future with the new option of air mobil­i­ty that will fur­ther enrich the lives of many peo­ple.” He con­tin­ued, “Toy­ota is com­mit­ted to deep­en­ing the col­lab­o­ra­tion with Joby and we’ll con­tin­ue to work togeth­er to realise our shared dreams.”

Joby’s eVTOL Air­craft made its first tri­al flight on Sat­ur­day (Novem­ber 2nd), after tak­ing off from the Toy­ota Tech­ni­cal Cen­tre, cel­e­brat­ing near­ly sev­en years of col­lab­o­ra­tion between the two com­pa­nies.

In ear­ly Octo­ber, the Japan­ese automak­er giant announced an addi­tion­al USD500 mil­lion to sup­port the com­mer­cial pro­duc­tion of Joby’s air taxi, bring­ing the company’s total invest­ment to USD894 mil­lion.
