Chris Rocheleau “Expected to Return as FAA Interim Chief”
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) touted “An Exclusive” last week when journalists Andrew Rangel and Alison Sider broke the news that former FAA veteran, Chris Rocheleau, is expected to return as the Agency’s interim Chief.
The present leader, Michael Whitaker, had decided to step down on January 20th, Donald Trump’s Presidential Inauguration date, so it is imperative that a new Chief, acting or otherwise, be found quickly to fill the vacancy.
The WSJ writes, “Rocheleau’s imminent return is expected to bring considerable expertise back to the FAA, drawing from his extensive experience in the aviation sector. This move comes at a crucial time as the FAA continues to navigate the complexities of modern air travel and safety regulations.”
It goes on, “This leadership change highlights the importance of seasoned oversight in maintaining the FAA’s standards and addressing emerging challenges in aviation safety and administration.”
Rocheleau, CEO of the ‘National Business Aviation Association’, most recently served as the FAA’s acting Safety Chief before leaving the agency in 2022. He previously held other senior roles, including as Chief of Staff and Head of International Affairs.
Meanwhile, Trump has named Sean Duffy as his pick for transportation secretary and nominated Steven Bradbury, former general counsel for the Transportation Department, as Duffy’s deputy.
Duffy’s Senate confirmation hearing is planned for Wednesday.
