“Airbility Raises KRW2.5 Billion For Pre-Series A Funding Round”

South Korean-based Airbility, an Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) company, recently announced it has secured KRW 2.5 billion in a Pre-Series A Funding Round, bringing its cumulative investment to KRW 3.7 billion, reports a press release. 1,451 Korean Won (KRW) is equivalent to 1 USD.

The funding round included new financing from Samho Green Investment and follow-on stakes from Base, Stonebridge and Mashup Ventures. With this latest investment, “Airbility has strengthened its foundation for eVTOL aircraft commercialisation and global market entry,” says the release. “Particularly notable is the active follow-on participation by initial seed investors, demonstrating strong trust in Airbility’s advanced technological capabilities and market potential.”

Jinmo Lee, Co-CEO of Airbility, commented, “This funding marks a pivotal step in laying the groundwork for technology commercialisation and global market expansion. We aim to create new value in the global aviation market through sustainable mobility solutions.”

Airbility plans to use the investment to commercialise its first unmanned eVTOL aircraft, the AB‑0, for wide-area surveillance and reconnaissance. This 10 ft wingspan eVTOL aircraft flies at 125mph and has more than 2 hours of endurance. Airbility finished prototyping AB‑0 and had its first flight trial last year.

With the company’s HQ at Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi-do, its website states, “We have developed optimal configurations and flight systems optimised for high-speed flight with electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL). We have also pioneered innovative distributed electric fanjet systems and modular hybrid power systems. These advances enable us to offer an unmanned aerial mobility solution that overcomes the constraints of location and distance, enabling safe and quiet medium and long-range travel.”

Background

Airbility is developing two types of eVTOL deploying vectored thrust propulsion systems. The AB‑2 is Airbility’s flagship product, a two-seat manned aircraft being developed to meet the MOSAIC rule introduced by the FAA in 2023. This is a high-performance, light sports aircraft capable of flying 250 miles at 250mph and is targeted for commercialisation in 2028. The company was founded in 2023 by a group from the Agency for Defense Development, Hyundai Motor Company and LG Electronics.
