Watch Video: “EHang Completes First Autonomous Flight in Mexico”

EHang announced this week the first flight of a EH216‑S autonomous eVTOL aircraft in Mexico, reports a press release. This expands EHang’s global presence by bringing its flight footprint to 19 different countries.

The company’s presence not only strengthens Mexico’s role in the global UAM market, but also accelerates the advancement of the global UAM industry.

Mexico provides an ideal environment for the growth of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) solutions with its densely populated cities, vibrant tourism sector and established manufacturing industry.

The release explains, “The flight was successfully completed following the granting of a Special Airworthiness Certificate for the EH216‑S by Mexico’s Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC). The operational authorisation process was rigorous and detailed, including technical document reviews, airworthiness inspections, operations manual approval, crew training and licensing, and compliance with aviation safety and operational standards in Mexico.”

This flight was made possible through the close coordination between Mexico’s AFAC, EHang and local partner Air Mobility who successfully operated the aircraft, laying a solid foundation for future eVTOL commercial operations.

Cristina Lara, CEO of Air Mobility commented, “We are dedicated to bringing innovative and sustainable advanced air mobility solutions to the people in Mexico. This is an important step in realising our vision of sustainable, safe and efficient air mobility in Mexico.”

Victoria Jing Xiang, COO at EHang Europe and Latin America, added, “In the future, we will expand operations to more Latin American countries, expanding this safe, advanced and sustainable air mobility to more cities, benefiting the people in Mexico, Latin America and improving our lives.”

The release continues, “The collaboration between AFAC and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) continues to grow. In August 2023, both parties signed a Strengthening Comprehensive Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding. This agreement covers key areas such as environmental protection, operational safety, capacity building and the regulation of unmanned aircraft systems.” And goes on, “Through this international partnership, Mexico is accelerating the adoption of pilotless eVTOL aircraft technology and advanced aviation solutions.”

Adding, ”The successful first flight of the EH216‑S in Mexico marks the beginning of urban air mobility solutions in the country and promotes the growth of its low-altitude economy. EHang and its partners are helping to shape the future of urban transportation, providing safe, sustainable, and efficient air mobility solutions for cities, businesses and tourists.”
