Embraer adds new partnerships to Project EASy, which focuses on breakthrough technologies for autonomous systems

Embraer has announced a broad set of new technological partnerships with global companies focused on breakthrough technologies for autonomous systems.

These agreements are part of the Embraer Autonomous System project, Project EASy, which uses agile experimentation processes for developing solutions that will enable the autonomous aviation of the future.

US-based Near Earth Autonomy, Iris Automation, and Ansys, as well as Switzerland’s Daedalean and Brazilian’s Motora.ai, are working with Embraer to accelerate the creation of innovative technologies and transform tomorrow’s air mobility.

The companies will work together in an open innovation approach to develop and evaluate several new autonomous flight technologies, both in simulation and real flight conditions.

This joint work will allow Embraer to develop innovative new products in line with the company’s continuous search for an efficient and sustainable future, such as the eVTOL aircraft developed by Eve, Embraer’s Urban Air Mobility company.

“Given Embraer’s leadership, this partnership is important in making autonomous flight more ubiquitous and safe for everyone,” said Jon Damush, CEO of Iris Automation

“Project EASy brings together many of the most innovative players across aviation technologies, bringing these developments to the global stage and providing an important forum for greater collaboration and adoption.”

In December 2021, Ebraer’s Eve Air Mobility company entered into a definitive business combination agreement with Zanite Acquisition Corp, which will see the new company listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbols ‘EVEX’ and ‘EVEXW’.

The deal, which is expected to close in Q2 2022, values Eve at an implied $2.4 billion and will give the company approximately $512 million in cash, resulting in a total pro forma equity value of about $2.9 billion.

Eve is led by co-CEOs Jerry DeMuro, who served as CEO of BAE Systems, and Andre Stein, who has led Eve since its inception and served in leadership roles with Embraer for more than two decades.

“We have been working intensely to co-create the aviation of the future in a broader collaboration with key technological partners,” said Maurilio Albanese Novaes Junior, Embraer Head of Research & Technology.

“We are glad to now have Near Earth Autonomy, Iris Automation and Daedalean contributing with their unique knowledge and experience in autonomous flight, as well as Ansys with its physics-based sensor simulation and expertise, along with Motora.ai which brings agile and flexible software integration to add value to our development project.”

Last week, Eve Air Mobility completed the Concept of Operations (CONOPS) for airspace integration of Urban Air Mobility in the UK, a case study looking at transporting passengers between Heathrow Airport and London City Airport.

Led by Eve, the UK Air Mobility Consortium consists of NATS, Heathrow Airport, London City Airport, Skyports, Atech, Volocopter, and Vertical Aerospace, in partnership with the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Innovation Hub through its Regulatory Sandbox.
