European Rotorcraft Women Advocates “Gender Equality in Helicopter Industry”
The recently established European Rotorcraft Women (ERW) attended the 30th Aero Friedrichshafen Trade Expo (April 17th-20th) in Germany, where on the Friday, three co-Founders of the group, took part in a forum panel, reports a press release.
The Board of ERW includes Marketa Mudrunkova from Heli Centre BV; Charlotte Pedersen, a former Danish military pilot in Denmark turned business mentor; and Emily Lewis from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
The Group aims to promote gender equality and visibility for women in the helicopter industry. One of its latest initiatives is the upcoming launch of a podcast titled Rotor Rendezvous. This will provide a platform to share inspiring stories from women in this industry, offer insights into their careers and discuss important topics.

Dee von Allmen, one of the Group’s co-Founders and CEO of Leocopter, commented, “We firmly believe that the diversity of perspectives and experiences that women bring to the aviation industry is invaluable. Through European Rotorcraft Women, we aim to encourage women to advance their careers in the helicopter industry while also providing a supportive network to accompany them on this journey.”
Katrin Mayrhofer, another co-Founder and COO of ELSA Industry, added, “The helicopter industry has made significant progress in the past, but there is still much to be done to achieve true equality. European Rotorcraft Women strives to break down barriers, encourage women to rise to leadership positions, and create an environment where they can fully unleash their potential.”
And Dr. Frank Liemandt, MD of the German Helicopter Association and Show Director of EUROPEAN ROTORS, who fully supports the initiative, remarked, “The rotorcraft industry greatly benefits from diversity and inclusion. We are proud to welcome European Rotorcraft Women at AERO and to work together to make the future of the helicopter industry more accessible and equitable for women.”

The Aero Friedrichshafen Trade Expo which is viewed as “Europe’s largest general-aviation trade show”, enjoyed its biggest crowd since the pandemic with 31,500 people attending. There were 12 halls comprising of 680 exhibitors from 38 countries and 250 aircraft of all types.
