Wisk in conjunction with Boeing have released this week, a 52 page Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) White Paper for Australia, reports a press release. It is FREE to download.

In the Paper’s introduction, Wisk writes, “Australia, with its forward-thinking approach to innovation and aviation, is uniquely positioned to be a leader in this transformative moment. Autonomous aircraft represent a safe, efficient, and sustainable mode of transportation that offers tremendous benefits, not just for urban centres, but for regional communities across Australia.”

It continues, “This document initiates a collaborative dialogue on the future of AAM in Australia, leveraging the nation’s unique environment as a foundation for developing innovative concepts of operations. Wisk is committed to working closely with airspace users, government agencies, regulators, and the Australian public to co-create a safe, equitable, and inclusive airspace system. By fostering open discussions and ongoing collaboration with stakeholders, we aim to establish a dynamic ecosystem that not only drives the growth of the AAM industry but also delivers meaningful benefits to communities across Australia.”

Adding, “Our vision for AAM in Australia includes creating greater connectivity for regional and remote areas, enhancing economic opportunities and delivering safe, reliable and environmentally friendly transportation options across the urban landscape… Autonomous systems have the potential to deliver a step change in safety performance in the small aircraft market and ensure the highest levels of safety for passengers and the broader public.”

Areas covered in this wide-ranging document include Use Cases; Operational Approach to Autonomy; Regulatory and Airspace Integration; Regional Air Mobility; Cargo; and Medical Transport.

The Variety of Australian Landscapes

There is a section entitled ‘The Wisk Advanced Air Mobility System’. This includes the aircraft overview; philosophy; Pre-Flight and Mission Validation; En-Route; and Final Approach and Landing.

The AAM system components are also looked at. These include Navigation, 4D Navigation and Temporal Coordination; Electronic Conspicuity and Communication Systems.

Brian Yutho, CEO of Wisk, commented, “It is an exciting time for the AAM industry and Wisk is proud to be at the forefront of shaping the future of autonomous flight.”

The Paper also focuses on the development of the Flight Information Management System (FIMS) which presents “a significant opportunity for integrating AAM  into Australia’s airspace.”

The introduction concludes, “This document initiates a collaborative dialogue on the future of AAM in Australia, leveraging the nation’s unique environment as a foundation for developing innovative concepts of operations.”
