Horizon Aircraft, ZeroAvia Announce Collaboration “to Explore Hydrogen eVTOL Propulsion”
Canada-based Horizon Aircraft, a developer of hybrid eVTOLs and ZeroAvia, a constructer of hydrogen-electric powertrains, announced this week plans to collaborate on developing regional hydrogen-electric VTOL air travel, reports a press release.
The companies are to cooperate on exploring zero-emission, regional eVTOL power systems with the intention to evaluate ZeroAvia’s ZA600 hydrogen-electric powertrain in the Cavorite X7, Horizon’s fan-in-wing aircraft. The partnership also aims to accelerate research in to the necessary infrastructure and certification guidelines to unlock a zero-emission pathway for Horizon.
Brandon Robinson, CEO and co-Founder of Horizon, commented, “We have been impressed with ZeroAvia’s recent flight demonstrations of hydrogen-electric propulsion systems and the company’s traction with regulators. Exploration of hydrogen solutions for regional air mobility market could develop into a viable solution to deliver clean, fast and highly efficient air travel.”
Val Miftakhov, Founder and CEO of ZeroAvia, added, “More and more eVTOL companies are looking to hydrogen-electric propulsion as the breakthrough that can extend range potential and durability.”
