“Joby to Perform Demonstration Flights at Osaka Expo, Joint Partnership with ANA Holdings”

Joby Avi­a­tion recent­ly announced it is to per­form demon­stra­tion flights at the Osa­ka Expo and is form­ing a joint ven­ture with ANA Hold­ings to deploy more than 100 Joby Air­craft with­in an air taxi ecosys­tem around Japan, reports a press release. This will be a sig­nif­i­cant expan­sion of the two com­pa­nies present part­ner­ship.

Begin­ning in Tokyo, ANA and Joby are tar­get­ing a phased roll­out in the com­ing years. The col­lab­o­ra­tion intends to accel­er­ate the bold, shared vision of the two com­pa­nies, to trans­form urban mobil­i­ty in the region.

Koji Shi­ba­ta, Pres­i­dent and CEO of ANA Hold­ings, com­ment­ed, “This is a piv­otal step for­ward for both com­pa­nies. Air taxi ser­vice will direct­ly con­tribute to address­ing Japan’s urban trans­porta­tion dif­fi­cul­ties, ulti­mate­ly enhanc­ing region­al exchange and pro­vid­ing a new, effi­cient means of trav­el.”

He con­tin­ued, “Demon­stra­tion flights at the Expo are the first step in address­ing that chal­lenge. Along­side our part­ners, we are ded­i­cat­ed to build­ing this future while adher­ing to the high­est safe­ty stan­dards devel­oped by the ANA Group.”

The OSAKAKO Ver­ti­port where Joby’s air­craft will be show­cased dur­ing Octo­ber

The two par­ties plan to cre­ate a net­work of ver­ti­ports, pilot train­ing pro­grams and air­craft main­te­nance sup­port, by fur­ther strength­en­ing col­lab­o­ra­tion with nation­al and local gov­ern­ments, as well as pri­vate sec­tor com­pa­nies. One such part­ner is Toy­ota Motor Cor­po­ra­tion, a key col­lab­o­ra­tor and investor in Joby.

Joby is to show­case its eVTOL air­craft, fea­tur­ing a spe­cial ANA liv­ery, from Octo­ber 1st to 13th. These flights are to fol­low on from Sky­Drive who are present­ly demon­strat­ing its SD-05 elec­tric air taxi. Joby oper­a­tions will include ver­ti­cal take­offs, full tran­si­tion to wing-borne flight and land­ings.
