SkyDrive Signs MOU with Marut Drones to Partner “on Transformation of Indian Air Transportation”
Japan-based eVTOL company, SkyDrive, has been busy in recent weeks, this being the fourth media release of the New Year. Given that in 15 months time, the company’s SD-05 flying taxi is “supposed to be” flying the public to and from the Osaka Kansai Expo during a 6 month period (April to October 2025), SkyDrive is faced with a tsunami amount of work ahead in preparation for this potential game-changing event. And why, some suggest these proposed flights are more a pipe-dream than a reality.
Meanwhile, after recent news of an MOU with Cyient and a partnership Agreement with the State of Gujarat in India, to cooperate on enabling the future of eVTOL aircraft operations in the region, India continues to be on SkyDrive’s radar as it announces another Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), this time with Marut Drones to partner “in transforming the future Indian Air Transportation”, reports a press release. Under the agreement, the partners aim “to explore and establish mutually beneficial relationships and networks,” explains the release.
Background
Marut Drones is a leading Indian drone technology manufacturer. Established in 2019 by three IIT graduates, Marut has a vision to advance agriculture. It aims to build the agricultural infrastructure of the next 100 years that will provide the world with sufficient, diversified and safe food.
From enhancing agricultural productivity and ensuring efficient healthcare logistics, to combating the proliferation of mosquito-borne diseases and facilitating environmentally friendly aerial seeding, Marut’s diverse range of drone solutions “is meticulously crafted to create a tangible, lasting impact.”
This begs the question: Why is a passenger-based eVTOL company and a drone manufacturer specialising in agriculture collaborating? Where are the similarities?
