Two-day Vertical Flight Society workshop to focus on eVTOL infrastructure

The Ver­ti­cal Flight Soci­ety (VFS) is host­ing its third work­shop on eVTOL infra­struc­ture for Urban Air Mobil­i­ty (UAM), with the two-day vir­tu­al event tak­ing place from 1st — 2nd Sep­tem­ber.

It aims to address the iden­ti­fied chal­lenges and plot out a plan of action in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Fed­er­al Avi­a­tion Admin­is­tra­tion’s (FAA) William J. Hugh­es Tech­ni­cal Cen­ter.

Also includ­ed will be pre­sen­ta­tions and facil­i­tat­ed dis­cus­sions from key play­ers in the indus­try. In addi­tion, VFS has been work­ing with the Com­mu­ni­ty Air Mobil­i­ty Ini­tia­tive (CAMI) to sched­ule a UAM101 work­shop on 3rd Sep­tem­ber.

In a draft agen­da, top­ics on Day One are Ver­ti­port Strate­gic Plan­ning, Smart Air­port Inte­gra­tion of UAM and Advanced Air Mobil­i­ty (AAM) and Design Cri­te­ria Con­sid­er­a­tion, which will talk about Safe­ty Areas and Obstruc­tion Man­age­ment, Basic Site Lay­out Con­sid­er­a­tions, Ground Move­ment and Taxi Oper­a­tions, Air­craft (Air­plane, Heli­copter, VTOL) Mixed Use Oper­a­tions.

Fea­tured speak­ers include Doug Stan­ley, Pres­i­dent and Exec­u­tive Direc­tor of the Nation­al Insti­tute of Aero­space, Bri­an Learn of Uber Ele­vate, and Nick Bor­er from NASA’s Lan­g­ley Research Cen­ter.

On Wednes­day, top­ics will be AAM Air Traf­fic and Air­space Chal­lenges, Infra­struc­ture Devel­op­ment and Con­tin­gency Plan­ning. Fea­tured speak­ers on this day include Starr Ginn, NASA’s UAM Strate­gic Advi­sor, Bri­an Smith of Gan­nett Flem­ing, Michael Dyment, Man­ag­ing Part­ner of NEXA Advi­sors, Kevin Erk­er of Ele­vate Test Solu­tions, Danielle McClean and Rachel Locks of Hap­py Take Off, and Dawn Zol­di of P3 Tech­ni­cal Con­sult­ing.

Top­ics dur­ing the Con­tin­gency Plan­ning dis­cus­sion will be Bat­ter Sys­tem Fail­ure Quar­an­tine, Air­craft Emer­gency Oper­a­tions, Non-Sched­uled AOG Main­te­nance Plan­ning and Haz­ardous Weath­er Air­craft Recov­ery Plan­ning.

Those inter­est­ed in attend­ing the event can reg­is­ter by click­ing here. It will cost $50 for FAA Tech Cen­ter employ­ees and $200 for all oth­er fed­er­al, state, local employ­ees, speak­ers and cur­rent VFS mem­bers. Non-mem­bers will pay $300, which includes a one-year mem­ber­ship.
