Watch Video: “FlyNow Aviation’s eCopter Takes Flight”
FlyNow Aviation has achieved an important milestone in the development of its eCopter family, reports a press release. A few weeks back, the electric craft’s first untethered trial flights were successfully completed at a testing site in Eastern Austria.
From the eCopter’s first flight tests in 2021, two years later extensive tethered flight testing were conducted at Salzburg Airport. These were crucial for system validation and allowed the company to collect valuable data and train the flight control computer.
Yvonne Winter, co-Founder and COO of FlyNow, enthused, “The successful untethered flight is not just a technical achievement, it’s visible proof that our vision works.” Adding, “We focus on reducing complexity and maximising safety — principles that are essential for scalable, sustainable air transport.”

These latest trials are focusing on gathering extensive flight data under real-world conditions, that include advancing the craft toward full certification after achieving in 2022 the Specific Category SAIL 11. It is now on its way towards SAIL IV which enables commercial cargo transportation by 2027, followed by passenger flights.
The company’s patented, counter-rotating rotor technology and modular design ensures:-
: Low noise emissions (only 55 dB(A) at 150m altitude, comparable to the sound level of a dishwasher).
: Exceptional efficiency and minimal energy consumption (30 kWh per 100 km).
: Market-leading affordability, with up to 10x lower production costs compared to competitors, making a flight on the eCopter as affordable as a regular taxi trip.
Winter continued, “Advanced Air Mobility is poised to become a transformative force in global infrastructure. The Sky Alliance for Automated Air Mobility (SALAAM.earth), a strategic partnership between FlyNow Aviation and Skyroads alongside other aligned members, introduces a practical model: Automated Air Mobility that integrates AI into safe, analogue, sustainable transport systems.”
The eCopter family includes a one and two-seater craft for personal transportation; a cargo version with a 200 kg payload capable of carrying a standard Euro pallet; as well as dedicated firefighting and rescue models, offering maximum flexibility for diverse urban and regional applications.
FlyNow believes that its ability to operate large fleets profitably, coupled with rapid certification readiness, positions the company as a leader in the rapidly evolving urban air mobility market.
