Watch Video: Latest Creation From Man Behind Jetson One, “The Volonaut Flying Airbike”

Yes, agreed, there have been flying motorbikes in the past that have come to nothing, but what offers credence to this latest creation called ‘The Volonaut Airbike’, is the Polish inventor behind it. He is the man who created the Jetson One. His name is Tomasz Patan.

Perhaps, some might dismiss him as an eccentric Heath Robinson of the skies, drawing whimsical elaborate machines to achieve simple objectives, but that is where it ends. He has taken his former fantasies, constructed and then test flown them, where the Jetson One, for example, should be commercially available and ready for personal use by the end of this year.

Yet, not content with one inspiring invention, Tomasz, a motorbike enthusiast, has chosen to create another futuristic marvel, ‘The Volonaut’.

It is a jet-powered, single-seat flying vehicle that looks like a motorcycle, but soars through the sky at speeds of up to 124 mph. With a flight computer, jet propulsion and automatic hovering, it’s not just fast, it’s smart too.

A press release states, “It can navigate through tight spaces that are barely wider than the vehicle itself and has a fully redundant fly-by-wire control system sending rider’s inputs straight to a triple-redundant flight computer which combines them with data from onboard sensors and feeds to the stabilisation system.” It adds, “On top of that the flying motorcycle can automatically land and take-off on its own, making the flight experience safer.”

Film footage of the Volonaut was recently uploaded to Youtube and within five days had attracted over 100,000 views.

While this prototype was first launched at the end of April, there is now an Airbike pre-order reservation available, open from August 1st.

Patan explained, ”The challenge was to come up with real-world reliable core technology that can be shrunk down and wrapped with a functional and bold design. The result is a first of its kind vehicle with incredible performance, stunning looks that actually resembles a sports motorbike, and it is flying!”

Volonaut will manufacture a commercial hoverbike version with a top speed of 102km/h or 63mph to meet the ‘Ultralight’ classification requirements allowing everyone to ride it in the air, away from densely populated areas without needing a pilot licence.

Specially developed training led by professionals will ensure that owners learn to safely and responsibly operate it.

The Airbike will go into production in limited numbers at a launch price of USD880,000. The company says it has begun work on a pre-production version and aims to share first flight footage next year.

Not surprisingly, the mainstream media is enchanted by the Volonaut. The New York Post, for example, gushed about the invention. It’s headline reads, “Star Wars speeder bikes are real — and they can reach mind-boggling speeds.”

The article points out that an initial video released earlier this year, divided public opinion with many suggesting computer trickery like AI had been used. And why Patan decided to release this latest footage to prove the sceptics wrong. Meanwhile, the comparison to Star Wars and its popular speeder bike can only be a good thing for the company.

The release continues, “The Airbike is the first hoverbike to achieve flight without traditional propellers, marking a historic milestone in aviation technology. Thanks to this, the flight is exceptionally smooth with no vibrations and a greater degree of control, making the human-machine bonding experience incredibly rewarding and exciting.”

It adds, “The rider literally feels like a superhero with the ability to glide through the air with no effort and the sensation of full three-dimensional freedom.”

The problem being: How many can afford USD880,000 and rather like the Jetson One, the idea of it flying over public areas and conurbations is completely unrealistic. Like the Jetson One, it will need to be private land where people are a rare commodity.

The release concludes, “The world’s first flying superbike is catered to those who thrive on speed and innovators alike, fusing futuristic aesthetics with innovative approach to engineering. Airbike is not just another flying machine; it’s a statement of freedom, thrill, and cutting-edge technology. It represents a new and very exciting way of experiencing the skies.”
