Watch Video: REGENT Seaglider Achieves Significant Landmark, “Successfully Completes First Foil Testing”
Sea trials of the REGENT Viceroy Seaglider vessel prototype are advancing rapidly, with the company announcing the successful completion of its first foil-mode testing, reports a press release.
Following the initial float-mode trial in March, this marks a significant step forward in the development of Seaglider vessels, with the aim to achieve the first human-crewed flight later this summer.
The release explains, “REGENT’s Seaglider represents pioneering regional coastal transportation. Unlike traditional seaplanes and flying boats, the Seaglider vessel employs a hybrid approach, combining floating, foiling and flying modes.”
It continues, “The recently tested foiling mode elevates the vessel from the water before it flies, allowing for immediate speed, easy manoeuvrability and smoother, safer, more comfortable rides.”

Billy Thalheimer, CEO at REGENT, commented, “The recent success of our first foil testing is a major milestone in our sea trials. We are excited to move into the next phase and bring the Seaglider vessel one step closer to transforming coastal travel.”
REGENT’s Seaglider vessel is classified as a boat and not an aircraft and is therefore regulated and certified in America by the U.S Coast Guard.
Other recent REGENT news include UrbanLink’s expanded order for the vessel; U.S Marine Corps Warfighting Lab extending its collaboration with a USD10 million contract extension; and ADNOC Logistics and Services’ trial of the craft in the UAE.
The company has already secured more than 600 seaglider orders valued at more than USD10 billion from leading airline and ferry operators around the world. Also, it has raised more than USD100 million from investors including 8090 Industries, Founders Fund, Japan Airlines and Lockheed Martin.
REGENT hopes that the all-important commercial maritime certification for the Seaglider will be given by the end of this year.
