Watch Video: “SkyDrive Lengthy Now Complete Osaka Demonstrations Major Success”

Sky­Drive recent­ly announced the com­ple­tion of its eVTOL demon­stra­tion flights at the Osa­ka EXPO, reports a press release.

Flights took place between July 31st to August 24th and Sep­tem­ber 14th to 23rd. The first series took off from the “Mobil­i­ty Expe­ri­ence” sec­tion of the Expo 2025 venue in Osa­ka. The sec­ond, begin­ning after an open­ing cer­e­mo­ny, were held at the near­by Osakako Ver­ti­port, devel­oped exclu­sive­ly for eVTOL air­craft by Osa­ka Metro Co, the oper­a­tor of the City’s sub­way net­work. 

The release explains, “As the Ver­ti­port is locat­ed in an urban area, in close prox­im­i­ty to res­i­dences, stores, and enter­tain­ment facil­i­ties, this sec­ond series of flights marked a sig­nif­i­cant step for­ward in the pub­lic accep­tance of eVTOLs.”

The pub­lic flights at the Osakako Ver­ti­port were pre­ced­ed by a series of famil­iari­sa­tion flights con­duct­ed from Sep­tem­ber 6th through Sep­tem­ber 12th. The dura­tion in total of 18 days, “is the most exten­sive devel­op­ment and test­ing pro­gram ever con­duct­ed by an eVTOL com­pa­ny in an urban set­ting,” con­tin­ues the release.

Flights were held twice dai­ly at 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM, although inclement weath­er caused a few can­cel­la­tions. The demon­stra­tions were watched by “very many mem­bers of the pub­lic” (the actu­al num­ber is not known).

The ver­ti­port is now play­ing host to Joby Avi­a­tion who is con­tin­u­ing on the eVTOL demos.
