CAE launches new Mixed Reality Flight Simulator for eVTOL market
CAE has launched its newest 700MXR Flight Simulator, initially targeted to the eVTOL market for complex urban settings to deliver high-fidelity, physics-based simulation tailored to single-pilot operations, at the Farnborough International Air Show 2022.
With a compact mini-motion platform and 360 degree field of view, CAE’s next-generation immersive synthetic out-the-window environment will enable pilots to take advantage of enhanced 3D perception and AI-based digital capabilities to fully engage in realistic, low-level flying scenarios, combined with a mixed reality head mounted display and real cockpit controls and instrumentation.
CAE Civil Group president Nick Leontidis said: “The CAE 700MXR’s ultra-realistic simulation bridges the gap between the physical and virtual worlds to deliver an unrivalled training experience for future eVTOL pilots.
“CAE is leading the way, developing advanced technologies and setting the training standard for the eVTOL market, and our innovative approach will ensure faster, more efficient training for pilots.”
Volocopter and CAE are developing, certifying and deploying a pilot training program for operating Volocopter’s electric air taxi in support of the launch of Volocopter’s anticipated urban air mobility (UAM) services for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, France.
Volocopter chief commercial officer Christian Bauer added: “Pilots will play a pivotal role in launching electric air taxi services, and we must ensure that the simulators for this new aircraft conform with the highest quality pilot training in aviation.”
Leontidis continued: “We look forward to working with the Volocopter team to ensure their pilots receive industry-leading training in the classroom and on the CAE700MXR simulator. Volocopter is a valued partner, and CAE will be there every step of the way to support their entry into service.”
During the Farnborough International Air Show 2022, CAE delivered an augmented reality demonstration of the CAE 700MXR to allow attendees to visualize the 3D perspective of the new flight simulator and explore its innovative features and functionalities.
In March, Joby Aviation partnered with CAE to develop and qualify flight simulation training devices that will be used to train future pilots of Joby’s commercial eVTOL aircraft.
In September 2021, Beta Technologies selected CAE to design and develop its pilot and maintenance technician training program for the Alia eVTOL aircraft.
