Dovetail Electric Aviation and CRISALION collaborate on battery systems for eVTOL airframes

Dove­tail Elec­tric Avi­a­tion and Crisalion Mobil­i­ty have joined forces to inte­grate advanced bat­tery sys­tems into Crisalion’s eVTOL air­craft, mark­ing a sig­nif­i­cant step for­ward in the elec­tri­fi­ca­tion of air mobil­i­ty.

This strate­gic part­ner­ship brings togeth­er two inno­va­tors in the elec­tric avi­a­tion space. Dove­tail, known for its exper­tise in con­vert­ing con­ven­tion­al air­craft to elec­tric pow­er and devel­op­ing new elec­tric air­craft con­cepts, has been devel­op­ing sophis­ti­cat­ed bat­tery packs designed specif­i­cal­ly for avi­a­tion appli­ca­tions.

These bat­tery packs adhere to strin­gent stan­dards like DO-311 and DO-160G, ensur­ing they are ful­ly cer­ti­fied under var­i­ous reg­u­la­to­ry envi­ron­ments, includ­ing EASA, CASA, and FAA.

Crisalion’s Inter­est in Dove­tail’s Bat­tery Tech­nol­o­gy

Crisalion, ded­i­cat­ed to the devel­op­ment of elec­tric Ver­ti­cal Take-Off and Land­ing (eVTOL) vehi­cles, has rec­og­nized the poten­tial of Dove­tail’s bat­tery tech­nol­o­gy.

The two com­pa­nies are com­mit­ted to col­lab­o­rat­ing on cus­tomiz­ing and fur­ther devel­op­ing Dove­tail’s bat­tery mod­ules to align with Crisalion’s spe­cif­ic per­for­mance and time­line require­ments.

This col­lab­o­ra­tion aims to opti­mize the bat­tery packs for seam­less inte­gra­tion into Crisalion’s eVTOL air­frames, ulti­mate­ly enhanc­ing the per­for­mance and effi­cien­cy of their elec­tric dri­ve­trains.

Com­pre­hen­sive Inte­gra­tion Process

The col­lab­o­ra­tion will involve a com­pre­hen­sive inte­gra­tion process. Dove­tail will pro­vide pro­to­type bat­tery mod­ules for ini­tial func­tion­al and inte­gra­tion test­ing.

Upon suc­cess­ful cer­ti­fi­ca­tion of Dove­tail’s bat­tery sys­tem, the part­ner­ship antic­i­pates enter­ing into a sup­pli­er agree­ment, with Dove­tail pro­vid­ing bat­tery sys­tems to Crisalion.  

Future Upgrades and Fund­ing Oppor­tu­ni­ties

Crisalion will not only ben­e­fit from Dove­tail’s cur­rent bat­tery tech­nol­o­gy but also from future upgrades, ensur­ing their eVTOL air­frames remain at the fore­front of tech­no­log­i­cal advance­ments.

Both com­pa­nies are also active­ly explor­ing oppor­tu­ni­ties to access fund­ing sources and grants with­in Spain and the EU to sup­port their joint devel­op­ment efforts.
