EHang, Gotion High-Tech Join Forces “to Power the Future of Low-Altitude Economy”

EHang announced this week an expansion of its partnership with Gotion High-Tech, an innovator of power battery solutions, reports a press release. This builds on a power system framework agreement signed in December 2023.

Under the “upgraded partnership,” the two parties will advance the development of power systems for EHang’s EH216 series of autonomous aircraft, with plans to extend their collaboration to future aircraft models. This will also contribute “to the high-quality development of the low-altitude economy (LAE) and deliver a customised battery solution tailored for the EH216 series, explains the release.

At the core of the collaboration is Gotion’s newly developed 46-series cylindrical battery cell that offers high energy density and robust power output.

The release explains, “The next-generation battery system is expected to significantly enhance the 216 eVTOL in flight range, thrust performance and operational safety, further improving the aircraft’s efficiency across a variety of use cases and strengthening its readiness for future scaled commercial deployment.”

Such efforts will help accelerate the commercialisation of the Urban Air Mobility and low-altitude networks. Gotion’s experience in standardised, platform-based battery systems, is expected “to be a key enabler of EHang’s long-term competitiveness in the global market,” continues the release.

Changqing Yan, COO of Gotion’s Asia-Pacific Business Division, commented, “The low-altitude economy is an important and rapidly emerging sector, and EHang’s pioneering position and remarkable achievements in the eVTOL space are widely recognised.”

He continued, “Our partnership enables the integration of our high-performance battery system with EHang’s aircraft, addressing current upgrade needs, while laying a solid foundation for next-generation air mobility solutions.”

Shuai Feng, Chang’s Senior VP of EHang, added, “Gotion’s advanced 46-series cylindrical cell technology will significantly enhance the performance of our EH216 series, pushing the performance boundaries even further. This is not just an upgrade in energy, but offers disruptive possibilities for the next generation of eVTOL aircraft.”

The collaboration marks an important milestone in EHang’s continued innovation of aircraft power systems.
