EHang to Conduct EH216 Trial Flights in Curitiba, Brazil

EHang plans to carry out EH216 trial flights in Curitiba, Brazil during March after a proposal was presented to the Mayor of the capital of Paraná, Rafael Greca, last week, reports mundogeo.com.

The aim is that a first autonomous demonstration, will be carried out during the Smart City Curitiba Expo, held between March 22nd and 24th. Also, EHang, through its representative in Brazil, AT Global, is to seek full commercial certification for the EH216 with the Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC).

Alexandre Daltro, CEO of AT Global, commented, “Curitiba is the natural choice being a smart and innovative city. To spread the culture of a new form of mobility, we could not have a better showcase for our product.”

According to Daltro, this is the first step in creating, during 2023, a regional headquarters in the south of Brazil as well as a centre for logistics, firefighting and air taxis in Curitiba.

EHang will also promote itself to relevant national and local government departments, while providing full support for commercial operations, sales and services, production and infrastructure construction around Brazil.

In addition a vertiport project, developed by Elaine Zanon, Founder of Design company, Arquitetare, an all-woman business, was also presented to the Rafael Greca Mayor. An initial proposal is to install the structure in Barigui Park.

Zanon remarked, “This proposal places urban air mobility within the city, helping people to get to know this new form of transport. This would then be replicated around Brazil.”

The viability of installing the vertiport will first be evaluated including the necessary investment required, as well as the exact location of its installation within the Park.

EHang’s plans to expand into Brazil has been influenced by a USD10 million equity investment from Qingdao West Coast New Area in December. The organisation, which is one of China’s government-backed “national new areas,” has further agreed to a potential additional USD10 million investment in the future. EHang says it is using the funds as working capital.
