Eve Air Mobility and Acciona to work together and develop a global Urban Air Mobility ecosystem
Eve Air Mobility and Acciona, a leader in regenerative solutions for a decarbonised economy, have announced a strategic partnership to accelerate the development of a global and sustainable Urban Air Mobility ecosystem.
Acciona will invest US$30 million and will join a group of strategic investors currently supporting the development of Eve and its business plan.
José Manuel Entrecanales, Acciona’s Chairman and CEO, will become one of seven board members after Eve’s listing on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), expected in the second quarter of 2022.
“Whether we like it or not, the world’s population is increasingly concentrated in larger cities,” he said.
“Keeping the climate footprint of these urban areas at bay is one of the greatest challenges of the decarbonisation process. Urban air transport models such as this can offer different sustainable mobility solutions.”
André Stein, co-CEO of Eve added: “Our agreement with Acciona reinforces Eve’s commitment to delivering a sustainable UAM ecosystem, which includes not only our zero-emission eVTOL – electric vertical takeoff and landing vehicle – but also the green infrastructure that will support this new way of transport.”
The partnership will also benefit novel industrial initiatives including vertiports, power purchase agreements, battery charging solutions, and handling. In 2021, 93% of the Acciona Group’s investments were aligned with the European Union’s taxonomy for sustainable activities.
The company avoided the emission of 13.4 million tonnes of CO2 (+1.5 per cent) during the year, ending that year as the most sustainable electricity company in Spain and the second most sustainable worldwide, according to the Sustainability Yearbook 2022 published by S&P Global.
Only last week, Eve Air Mobility signed a Letter of Intent with Global Crossing Airlines Group for up to 200 of its eVTOL aircraft. At the same time, the company announced a consortium – which features Skyports, L3Harris Technologies and the Community Air Mobility Initiative (CAMI) – to examine the ecosystem required for both passenger and vehicle journeys in Miami-Dade County.
Before that in February, Eve Air Mobility and Skyports announced they were working together to develop a new Concept of Operations (CONOPS) for Advanced Air Mobility for the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau. Partners include Kanematsu Corporation, a major Japanese aerospace trading company, and Japan Airlines (JAL).
In December 2021, Eve announced plans to list on NYSE through a business combination with Zanite Acquisition Corp, with Zanite changing its name to Eve Holding.
