SkyDrive Signs MoU with Japan Biz Aviation for eVTOL Operations
SkyDrive Inc. has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japan Biz Aviation Co., Ltd. to collaborate on future commercial operations of its eVTOL aircraft in Japan.
The agreement aims to leverage JBZ’s experience as a charter operator of HondaJet business jets and Bell helicopters. JBZ holds an air operator’s certificate (AOC) and provides aircraft management and charter services.
SkyDrive has accumulated 427 aircraft orders globally, including pre-orders and basic purchase agreements. While many international customers already hold AOCs, many Japanese buyers — such as rail companies — do not. The partnership seeks to address this gap by developing operational frameworks that allow third parties to safely own and operate SkyDrive aircraft.
Under the MoU, the companies will discuss aircraft ownership and operations models, clarify roles for SkyDrive, JBZ, and aircraft buyers, and create a roadmap for entry into service. The goal is to enable broader adoption of eVTOL technology across various industries in Japan.
SkyDrive CEO Tomohiro Fukuzawa stated that partnering with experienced operators is central to the company’s strategy for safe and reliable commercial services. Shin Koizumi, Representative Director of JBZ, noted that the MoU expands the company’s scope into advanced air mobility while applying its existing operational expertise.
JBZ, based at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, is part of the Japan General Aviation Service group and has pioneered joint aircraft ownership models in Japan. This partnership comes ahead of any planned commercial launches, with Japan’s eVTOL developers still needing to buid necessary operational infrastructure and regulatory pathways.
This agreement is the first of its kind for SkyDrive in Japan, and may serve as a template for future collaborations with other operators.
