Sora Aviation Signs Sensing Solution MOI with Honeywell
UK-based Sora Aviation has announced partnerships with Honeywell Technologies and Toray Advanced Composites during the Farnborough International Airshow, advancing development of its 30-seat S‑1 electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
The company signed a memorandum of understanding with Honeywell focused on advanced sensing solutions for the S‑1’s electric propulsion and energy storage systems. Sora stated that smart sensing will support performance optimization, operational reliability, and certification as the project progresses toward a flying prototype and eventual series production.
Separately, Sora entered an agreement with Toray Advanced Composites covering materials for the aircraft’s airframe and proprotor blades.
The S‑1 is a UK-designed, larger-capacity eVTOL intended for Advanced Air Mobility applications. At the airshow, Sora engaged with partners, suppliers, and potential customers, and offered visitors the opportunity to experience the S‑1 via a flight simulator.
Sora indicated that work on a full-scale prototype continues, with the company aiming to approach first flight by the next Farnborough Airshow in 2028.
Honeywell’s involvement brings established aerospace sensing and avionics expertise to the program. Toray’s composites capabilities align with the structural demands of a multi-passenger electric aircraft.
Sora Aviation has positioned the S‑1 as a higher-capacity option within the eVTOL landscape, which has so far been dominated by smaller air taxi concepts. The new agreements mark concrete steps in securing key technologies and materials for the platform.
