EHang released a new video last Friday via Twitter, showing its EH216 AAV flying over different terrains in various parts of the world. These countries are:- China, USA, Japan, South Korea, Qatar, Netherlands, Austria, UAE, Estonia, Spain and Indonesia.

This is a great accomplishment and shows how far ahead the development of the AAV company is, when compared to its competitors. As EHang supporters know, the company is 90 percent of the way towards full certification approval from the CAAC and the beginning of a fully-fledged commercial life.

Yet, given there is still the remaining and most critical 10 percent of the certification left, EHang and business supporters remain gung-ho about the aircraft’s future prospects. The latest example of this, is news from akihabara.com that Mizushima Aero & Space Industry Cluster Study Group (MASC) has begun construction of a building in West Japan that will serve as an educational and display showroom for the eVTOL industry, in particular, for EHang. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on May 29th at the construction location in Kurashiki city, Okayama, where close to twenty people attended.

The facility, located in the Bikan Historical Quarter, attracts many domestic and international tourists, and will consist of a single glass-enclosed two-storey building with a total floor area of about 290 sq. metres. It is scheduled to be completed in October. This is similar to a car showroom, but for eVTOLs instead.

The primary attraction will be an operational EH216 passenger AAV. The building will also feature a Virtual Reality exhibit where participants can experience simulations of flying within the said eVTOL.

MASC, who has been organising, along with its Chinese partners, some of the first eVTOL flights in Japan, aim to put the aircraft, initially, into practical use as a means of transportation for people living on the remote islands of the Seto Inland Sea, as well as to provide sightseeing tours for visitors.

Koji Kirino, Honorary Chairman of MASC, told a national broadcaster that the showroom will become, “The ideal place to let many people know about flying cars. We want this to lead to the development of air logistics and tourism businesses using these aircraft.”

Of course, Japan is very keen and enthusiastic about educating its public on Urban Air Mobility (UAM), given the Osaka Expo 2025 is less than two years away. The country aims to display, a wide range of eVTOLs alongside vertiports, where some aircraft will be flying passengers to and from the Expo during a six-month duration.

The eVTOL showroom in Kurashiki City is all part of a growing diverse and varied plan in Japan to achieve this. Perhaps, some wealthy people may even order an EH216 via the showroom at the AAVs sales price of USD302,000.
