UAE: Dronamics, Emirates Post Group Sign LOI to Explore Cargo Drone Deliveries

Dron­am­ics, a Bul­gar­ia-based drone deliv­ery com­pa­ny and Emi­rates Post Group (EPG), a lead­ing postal and express deliv­ery provider, have signed a Let­ter of Intent (LOI) to explore car­go drone deliv­er­ies around the UAE, reports a press release.

The LOI, signed dur­ing the offi­cial launch of the Smart and Autonomous Vehi­cles Indus­try (SAVI) Clus­ter in Abu Dhabi, marks the begin­ning of a pio­neer­ing col­lab­o­ra­tion “to rede­fine car­go drone deliv­ery in the Unit­ed Arab Emi­rates.” 

This is anoth­er exam­ple of UAE’s deter­mi­na­tion along with the gen­er­al Mid­dle East region to dom­i­nate both the eVTOL and Drone mar­kets mov­ing for­ward. Only yes­ter­day, news broke that Archer Avi­a­tion has cho­sen the UAE as its first inter­na­tion­al port of call out­side of Amer­i­ca. 

Mean­while, SAVI is set to become a glob­al lead­ing smart and autonomous vehi­cle hub, with dom­i­nance across air, land, and sea, attract­ing rel­e­vant OEMs, star­tups, researchers and tal­ent.

The release explains, “Under the terms of the LOI, EPG will explore and tri­al Dron­am­ics’ car­go drone ser­vice to enable same-day mid­dle-mile and long-range deliv­er­ies. Both orga­ni­za­tions will col­lab­o­rate towards devel­op­ing a com­pre­hen­sive car­go drone deliv­ery net­work in the UAE and Gulf Coop­er­a­tion Coun­cil (GCC) region.”

Once tri­alled, EPG aims to “inte­grate this inno­v­a­tive tech­nol­o­gy into its logis­tics net­work and enable access of the tech­nol­o­gy to the wider logis­tics indus­try.” EPG also intends to be a launch part­ner of the future Dron­am­ics UAE joint ven­ture to sup­port the expan­sion of their car­go drone oper­a­tions in the region.”

This is a game-chang­er for Dron­am­ics, a com­pa­ny co-fund­ed by the Euro­pean Union under the pres­ti­gious Euro­pean Inno­va­tion Coun­cil, Europe’s flag­ship inno­va­tion pro­gram. In one agree­ment, it has the poten­tial to dom­i­nate the drone deliv­ery indus­try in the Mid­dle East. A mar­ket with huge poten­tial.

As part of this LOI, EPG enables Dron­am­ics to con­duct Proof-of-Con­cept (POC) flights in the UAE with at least one drone air­craft by 2024 via its postal and express busi­ness. This col­lab­o­ra­tion sup­ports EPG’s goal to enable the over­all deliv­ery sup­ply chain of logis­tics oper­a­tions in the UAE.
