Archer Collaborates With Etihad Aviation Training “For eVTOL Pilot Training Operations in Abu Dhabi”

Archer Avi­a­tion announced this week, it has signed a Mem­o­ran­dum of Under­stand­ing (MOU) with Eti­had Train­ing (ET) that lays the ground­work for a part­ner­ship to recruit and train prospec­tive pilots for the Mid­night air­craft in Abu Dhabi to fly across the UAE, reports a press release. 

The MOU was dis­closed at the begin­ning of the Future Avi­a­tion Forum in Riyadh, Sau­di Ara­bia, where Archer is show­cas­ing its Mid­night for the first time in the coun­try.

Nikhil Goel, CCO for Archer, com­ment­ed, “Train­ing a fleet of pilots to oper­ate our air­craft is a crit­i­cal­ly impor­tant part of the efforts to estab­lish a thriv­ing Urban Air Mobil­i­ty (UAM) net­work in Abu Dhabi and the rest of the UAE. Eti­had Train­ing is the pre­mier organ­i­sa­tion to part­ner with on this front.”

He con­tin­ued, “As Etihad’s first eVTOL part­ner, we will com­mence a care­ful recruit­ing process and start train­ing the top qual­i­fied pilots to oper­ate Archer’s Mid­night for com­mer­cial oper­a­tions with­in the region.”

Cap­tain Pao­lo La Cava, CEO of Eti­had Train­ing, added, “We recruit and train pilots to fly with many dif­fer­ent glob­al air­lines. We are excit­ed to choose Archer as our first eVTOL part­ner for recruit­ment and train­ing first class  elec­tric air taxi pilots to fly the Mid­night air­craft, right here in Abu Dhabi, as ear­ly as next year.”

As part of the col­lab­o­ra­tion, Archer intends to deliv­er a Mid­night air­craft sim­u­la­tor to be housed and staffed by ET at its cen­tre in Abu Dhabi for research and devel­op­ment of pilot train­ing com­pe­ten­cies and to sup­port the required reg­u­la­to­ry cer­ti­fi­ca­tions.

The release states, “Eti­had Train­ing will pro­vide local guid­ance and exper­tise as they con­tin­ue to engage with the GCAA and oth­er local author­i­ties to estab­lish appro­pri­ate pilot train­ing require­ments in the UAE, all in sup­port of safe and effi­cient oper­a­tions of Archer’s air­craft.” 

Archer Avi­a­tion has been work­ing with var­i­ous organ­i­sa­tions with­in Abu Dhabi and Dubai to accel­er­ate the oper­a­tion of its elec­tric air taxi ser­vices across the region. This lat­est announce­ment is yet anoth­er step in the devel­op­ment of its gen­er­al infra­struc­ture.
