Archer hires top engineering talent from Aerion Supersonic as it continues to work towards certification

Archer has brought in more than 20 engineers from Aerion Supersonic as the company looks to bolster its workforce ahead of its aircraft design and certification roadmap.

Aerion had planned to build a supersonic business jet capable of flying nearly twice as fast as a commercial aircraft, but announced it was closing down last month.

Among those joining Archer from Aerion include Alessandra D’Ambrosia-Furman, Head of Interiors, Ed Barnes, Electromagnetic Effects Lead, and Jonhyeob (JY) Shin, Principle Flight Controls Engineer. Also joining Archer are Pedro Carleial, Head of Systems Engineering and Systems Safety, and Mike Kerho, Aerodynamics Test Engineer.

Together, they have more than 350 collective years of industry experience, from major OEMs including Gulfstream, Bombardier, Embraer, Honeywell, Boeing and Airbus.

These hires will bring crucial experience to Archer as it works towards FAA certification, in areas such as aerodynamics, flight controls, avionics, structures, system engineering and system safety and programme management.

Brett Adcock, Archer co-founder and co-CEO, said: “At Archer, we are always searching for the best talent in the industry to join our team and help us towards our goal of certification and commercial flight. The newest additions to our engineering team bring a deep understanding of aerospace engineering and will serve to keep Archer at the forefront of the industry when it comes to eVTOL development and flight.”

After Archer’s recent unveiling of its demonstration aircraft Maker, the company has said its focus moving forward is to work towards certification and commercial launch in 2024. Maker will serve as a certification testbed to also keep pushing key enabling technologies, with the first flights expected to begin in Q4 2021 and manufacturing starting in 2022.

Already this year, it has announced two city partnerships in Los Angeles and Miami, a strategic partnership with Stellantis, as well as a purchase order from United, and a joint merger with Atlas Crest Investment Corporation.

Adam Goldstein, Archer co-founder and co-CEO, added: “We are thrilled to welcome these talented engineers to our team to usher in the future of cities and sustainable transportation. Archer will move people throughout the world in a quick, safe, sustainable, and cost-effective manner.

“We are eager to watch these gifted minds blend with our talented team and continue pursuing their ambitions around travel at Archer.”
