Australia: Victoria’s State Government Announces “Financial Package to Support Dovetail Electric Aviation”
Last week the Victorian Government announced a financial investment to support the development roadmap of Dovetail Electric Aviation (DEA), reports a press release. This assists Dovetail’s mission to bring electric aviation to commercial market as early as 2026.
Invest Victoria, the State Government’s investment and promotion agency, is offering non-dilutive financial support to DEA. This assistance is aimed at progressing the company’s efforts with Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) through fostering economic development.
The release says, “This initiative is part of the Victorian Government’s commitment to embracing new forms of mobility and the transformative potential of efficient, zero-emission aviation technologies for State communities and regions.”
Due to the support, Dovetail’s HQ has been relocated from New South Wales to Victoria, where the company has a presence at both Melbourne and Latrobe.

The announcement by Victoria’s Hon. Harriet Shing MP took place at Latrobe Regional Airport and its new Aerospace Technology Precinct AAM sandbox, where DEA has been conducting tests on its propulsion system which features hydrogen fuel cells. This technology represents a major milestone in Australian aeronautics, with the company leading the country’s AAM sector by becoming “the first to develop and test such a propulsion system specifically designed for aviation.”
Shing commented, “We are delighted to support Dovetail Electric Aviation’s new centre in the Latrobe Valley, which will deliver world-leading innovations for this emerging aeronautical sector, create new jobs in regional Victoria and contribute to the state’s net-zero emissions goal.”
David Doral, CEO of Dovetail Electric Aviation, added, “This investment will enable us to accelerate our research and development efforts, bringing us closer to our vision of a sustainable, efficient and accessible aviation future.”
DEA’s work represents a significant step forward in the development of zero-emission aviation technologies, with the potential to revolutionise air travel and reduce the industry’s environmental impact. The State Government of Victoria’s support underlines a commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in this sector, positioning Victoria as a global leader in AAM.
Dovetail is initially targeting certification of its first electric powered aircraft in 2026. The company is also working on the development of electric-hydrogen aircraft conversions, with its first powertrain prototype undergoing demonstration at Latrobe Regional Airport.
