An inde­pen­dent flight test, cer­ti­fi­ca­tion, research & devel­op­ment cen­ter pro­vid­ing a com­plete range of ser­vices to the glob­al aero­space com­mu­ni­ty.

Found­ed in 2016 and head­quar­tered on the out­skirts of Mon­tre­al — one of the largest aero­space cen­tres in the world — 3C pro­vides a Cana­da-wide cen­tral­ized resource with proven man­age­ment, tools, and meth­ods to under­take civ­il and mil­i­tary aero­space projects requir­ing air­wor­thi­ness flight test and cer­ti­fi­ca­tion.

To address the future of aero­space 3C estab­lished CFATE-Cen­tre for Future Aero­space Tech­nolo­gies, Eval­u­a­tion, flight test and cer­ti­fi­ca­tion. CFATE helps cus­tomers find solu­tions to how new tech­nolo­gies will be spec­i­fied, designed, devel­oped, inte­grat­ed, eval­u­at­ed, test­ed, cer­ti­fied and show­cased.

3C is an Inde­pen­dent, Trans­port Cana­da Approved Design Approval Orga­ni­za­tion (DAO) able to make find­ings of com­pli­ance in all del­e­gable areas.

Mar­in­vent Cor­po­ra­tion

Found­ed in 1983 for the pur­pose of con­duct­ing aero­space research and devel­op­ment. The com­pa­ny now focus­es on help­ing cus­tomers bring prod­ucts to mar­ket effi­cient­ly and reduc­ing pro­gram risk. Mar­in­vent is head­quar­tered around Mon­tre­al, one of the largest aero­space cen­tres in the world.

In 2016 Mar­in­vent cre­at­ed Cer­ti­fi­ca­tion Cen­ter Cana­da (3C), Canada’s first Inde­pen­dent flight test and cer­ti­fi­ca­tion Design Approval Orga­ni­za­tion (DAO). 3C now under­takes all cer­ti­fi­ca­tion ser­vices pre­vi­ous­ly sup­plied by Mar­in­vent. A strate­gic part­ner­ship with Mar­in­vent sup­ply­ing equip­ment, engi­neer­ing and tools.

His­to­ry of our Inde­pen­dent Flight Test and Cer­ti­fi­ca­tion DAO

3C’s sis­ter com­pa­ny Mar­in­vent has been in the busi­ness of flight test and cer­ti­fi­ca­tion for many years (since 1983).

Mar­in­vent estab­lished the Flight Test Cen­tre of Excel­lence as a sep­a­rate com­pa­ny specif­i­cal­ly for this pur­pose back in 2007. At this time, the mar­ket was not ready for us, but that changed in 2016 and led Mar­in­vent to re-brand Flight Test Cen­tre of Excel­lence as 3C.

Begin­ning in ear­ly 2016, Mar­in­vent was encour­aged by both the Cana­di­an Aero­space indus­try and by Trans­port Cana­da to for­mal­ly estab­lish itself as an inde­pen­dent cer­ti­fi­ca­tion com­pa­ny by obtain­ing TCCA Inde­pen­dent DAO sta­tus.

This caused FTCE to seek (and lat­er receive) Canada’s first inde­pen­dent flight test and cer­ti­fi­ca­tion DAO approval (This was announced at the Farn­bor­ough Air­show July 2016). The rea­sons are explained below:

Based upon the sheer size of the coun­try and the dis­tri­b­u­tion of exper­tise from East coast to West, it has nev­er been easy for com­pa­nies that require the per­ma­nent or peri­od­ic out­sourc­ing of cer­ti­fi­ca­tion projects to con­tract with DARs and DAOs in Cana­da.

Since indi­vid­ual DARs are each very lim­it­ed in terms of what they are approved to make find­ings of com­pli­ance on, even rel­a­tive­ly sim­ple projects may have required mul­ti­ple DARs to cov­er prop­er­ly.

This inevitably meant that cus­tomers had to man­age mul­ti­ple indi­vid­ual con­tracts with DARs across wide­spread geo­graph­i­cal loca­tions, each using their own process­es and tools (if any), and with wide­ly vary­ing avail­abil­i­ties. 3C was con­ceived to over­come all of these short­com­ings in order to make it eas­i­er and more reli­able to man­age such projects.
