EHang Signs “Strategic Partnership with Shenzhen’s Bureau of Culture” to Develop and Expand Aerial Tourism

After recent­ly col­lab­o­rat­ing with the Shen­zhen Bao’an Dis­trict Gov­ern­ment, EHang is expand­ing and strength­en­ing its local pres­ence by forg­ing a strate­gic part­ner­ship with the Bureau of Cul­ture, Radio, Tele­vi­sion, Tourism and Sports of Luo­hu Dis­trict, Shen­zhen munic­i­pal­i­ty “to joint­ly devel­op an inno­v­a­tive mod­el for high-qual­i­ty growth in the cul­tur­al, com­mer­cial and tourism sec­tors through pilot­less eVTOL air­craft,” reports a press release.The co-oper­a­tion pri­mar­i­ly focus­es on aer­i­al sight­see­ing. 

With the many cul­tur­al and tourism resources in Luo­hu Dis­trict, this ini­tia­tive also cov­ers con­struc­tion of mul­ti­ple UAM oper­a­tion cen­tres like ver­ti­ports to serve as hubs for both aer­i­al sight­see­ing and gen­er­al pub­lic trans­porta­tion.

At the sign­ing cer­e­mo­ny, Defan Fan, Sec­re­tary of the Luo­hu Dis­trict Com­mit­tee, explained that the first UAM oper­a­tion cen­tre will be locat­ed in the Luo­hu Sports and Leisure Park and its con­struc­tion should be com­plet­ed by the end of the year. He then flew on an EH216‑S for a low-alti­tude sight­see­ing trip “cap­tur­ing the breath­tak­ing views of Wutong Moun­tain.”

The first project named “FeiX­i­ang Wutong Pilot­less Pas­sen­ger-Car­ry­ing Air­craft Sight­see­ing Project” will take place in the district’s Eco­log­i­cal Inte­gra­tion Area. The region aims for inte­gra­tion between the low-alti­tude econ­o­my (LAE) and key attrac­tions like its upscale hotels, com­mer­cial zones, leisure parks and camp­ing enter­pris­es.

Locat­ed adja­cent to Wutong Moun­tain Nation­al Park and Donghu Reser­voir, the release states, “Luo­hu Sports and Leisure Park boasts extra­or­di­nary nat­ur­al resources with its cap­ti­vat­ing moun­tain, four lakes and reser­voir land­scape.” 

An oper­at­ing cen­tre is also sched­uled to be com­plet­ed in 2024 and will com­prise of a ver­ti­port, hangars, wait­ing areas and a com­mand-and-con­trol cen­tre. The pub­lic is to have an oppor­tu­ni­ty “to immerse them­selves in low alti­tude sight­see­ing expe­ri­ences, allow­ing them to appre­ci­ate the com­plete beau­ty of Luo­hu District’s moun­tains, sea and cityscape.”

Hui Zhan, Deputy Dis­trict May­or of the Luo­hu Dis­trict, com­ment­ed, “Our pri­ma­ry focus will be on cul­ti­vat­ing inno­v­a­tive low-alti­tude relat­ed appli­ca­tions that com­bine com­merce, tourism and cul­tur­al expe­ri­ences. Mov­ing for­ward, we have ambi­tious plans to estab­lish more low-alti­tude oper­a­tion cen­tres in the city of Luo­hu.”

The ulti­mate goal is to posi­tion Shen­zhen as the ulti­mate demon­stra­tion zone for the gen­er­al avi­a­tion indus­try and estab­lish it as a LAE indus­tri­al hub with­in the Greater Bay Area.

Xin Fang, COO of EHang, added, “As a pio­neer in the low-alti­tude econ­o­my, both the Shen­zhen munic­i­pal and dis­trict gov­ern­ments have cre­at­ed favourable poli­cies to pro­vide finan­cial sup­port such as sub­si­dies for infra­struc­ture con­struc­tion and cre­ate an attrac­tive devel­op­ment envi­ron­ment for LAE enter­pris­es.” 

He con­tin­ued, “Mov­ing for­ward, the EH216‑S will expand its pres­ence to more land­marks with­in Shen­zhen to explore an increas­ing num­ber of new busi­ness mod­els for the LAE and con­tin­ue to lead the devel­op­ment of the glob­al UAM indus­try.”
