Supernal chooses Honeywell as Avionics Provider for its eVTOL aircraft
Hyundai Motor Group’s eVTOL department has chosen aerospace provider, Honeywell, to develop avionics systems for its eVTOL aircraft, reports reuters.com.
Under this partnership, Honeywell will work with Supernal, Hyundai’s U.S‑based eVTOL subsidiary, to explore integration of the aerospace supplier’s ‘Anthem’ flight deck in to its flying taxi, which is set to enter commercial service in 2028.
Honeywell’s collaboration with Supernal is a first with an air taxi company established by a car maker. The organisation, which is a big supplier to Boeing and Airbus, also has investments in eVTOL firms, Lilium, Vertical Aerospace and Volocopter.
Stephane Fymat, Honeywell Vice-President, pointed out to Reuters a present challenge facing the eVTOL Industry — the U.S Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and certification. He commented, “We want to see the FAA come out with its set of certification rules, quickly. Well thought out, but quickly (and) that those rules are harmonised with those of EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency).”
The FAA is still in the process of drawing up certification rules for eVTOLs given the jets work as helicopters when taking off and landing and as aeroplanes during flight. Honeywell says it would consider investing further in the eVTOL sector, when the FAA certification is resolved.

Fymat added, “We expect the overall market for air taxis to be around USD120 billion per year by 2030.”
