Varon Vehicles brings ResilienX into its urban air mobility ecosystem for Latin America

ResilienX has become the latest company to join Varon Vehicles’ urban air mobility ecosystem in Latin America, and will integrate its off-nominal situation management capabilities into planned ‘Infrastructure Networks’ across the region.

These networks form a number of vertiports in a city and suburb, with virtual lanes over the low altitude city skies connecting them and fleets of eVTOL aircraft for servicing between them. Varon Vehicles says they are a new form of mobility infrastructure that will not require per-mile construction, and plans to introduce them into Colombia first.

ResilienX joins a growing list of other companies which are lending their industry expertise to the ecosystem in Latin America. Jaunt Air Mobility was the first to sign a partnership in January 2021, with PS&S, TruWeather Solutions, Airio, Five-Alpha and Flight Crowd joining more recently.

Felipe Varon, CEO and Founder of Varon Vehicles, said: “Just like with any other aviation system, we have to expect off-nominal situations to present themselves during operation. The challenge is to correctly anticipate these situations and have the proper planned responses in place to negotiate and mitigate them safely.

“ResilienX is building a robust and reliable capability for advanced air mobility that can help us reach the level of confidence we need to provide seamless transportation services to our customers.”

Based in Syracuse, New York, ResilienX is the developer of FRAIHMWORK®, an in-time system-wide safety assurance platform and the collaboration is focused on analysing its potential integration into Varon Vehicle’s Traffic Management Systems (TMS). The company creates safety assurance solutions for autonomous ecosystems and is focused on ensuring the safe integration of UAS into existing airspace systems.

Andrew Carter, ResilienX’s Co-Founder, President and CTO, also took part in a series of think tanks hosted by Varon Vehicles between August and October 2020.

“We are thrilled for this partnership” said Ryan Pleskach, CEO of ResilienX. “Varon Vehicles is a global visionary and this push for advanced aerial mobility can deliver disruptive change in the mobility industry. We are excited to bring our experience and capabilities in developing safety critical system of systems to bear on the Varon Vehicles vision.

“Our work with NASA and the FAA on various UTM/UAM programs, to monitor, assess and mitigate off-nominal situations, has given us a deep understanding of the challenges that these ecosystems face as operational complexity increases and we are looking forward to playing a role in tackling those challenges.”
