Vertical Aerospace Expands Commercialisation Push With New Global Partnerships

UK-based elec­tric air­craft devel­op­er Ver­ti­cal Aero­space has announced three new strate­gic part­ner­ships aimed at accel­er­at­ing the com­mer­cial roll­out of advanced air mobil­i­ty, as the com­pa­ny builds on a series of recent mile­stones in cer­ti­fi­ca­tion, infra­struc­ture and man­u­fac­tur­ing.

The agree­ments, unveiled dur­ing the Farn­bor­ough Inter­na­tion­al Air­show, extend Ver­ti­cal’s net­work of col­lab­o­ra­tions across reg­u­la­tors, air­port oper­a­tors and prop­er­ty devel­op­ers as it works towards com­mer­cial deploy­ment of its elec­tric ver­ti­cal take-off and land­ing (eVTOL) air­craft, Valo.

The first agree­ment is with Sau­di Ara­bi­a’s Gen­er­al Author­i­ty of Civ­il Avi­a­tion (GACA), which will see the two organ­i­sa­tions col­lab­o­rate on the cer­ti­fi­ca­tion, reg­u­la­to­ry and oper­a­tional frame­works need­ed to sup­port Advanced Air Mobil­i­ty (AAM) in the King­dom. The part­ner­ship will explore val­i­da­tion of Ver­ti­cal’s air­craft cer­ti­fi­ca­tion, the devel­op­ment of future reg­u­la­tions for elec­tric air­craft oper­a­tions and the shar­ing of tech­ni­cal exper­tise with inter­na­tion­al avi­a­tion author­i­ties.

Along­side this, Ver­ti­cal has signed a sep­a­rate mem­o­ran­dum of under­stand­ing with Sau­di air­port oper­a­tor Cluster2 Air­ports Com­pa­ny. The com­pa­nies will assess how eVTOL air­craft could be inte­grat­ed across Cluster2’s air­port net­work, includ­ing eval­u­at­ing infra­struc­ture require­ments and the poten­tial deploy­ment of Ver­ti­cal’s air­craft.

A third part­ner­ship takes the com­pa­ny into Por­tu­gal, where it will work with real estate devel­op­er VIC Prop­er­ties to explore how elec­tric avi­a­tion could be incor­po­rat­ed into the Pin­heir­in­ho estate in Com­por­ta, home to the planned Six Sens­es Com­por­ta resort. The col­lab­o­ra­tion will exam­ine whether pre­mi­um res­i­den­tial and hos­pi­tal­i­ty devel­op­ments could become ear­ly use cas­es for region­al elec­tric air mobil­i­ty ser­vices.

The announce­ments fol­low sev­er­al sig­nif­i­cant devel­op­ments for Ver­ti­cal in recent weeks. Ear­li­er this month, the com­pa­ny com­plet­ed the first pub­lic demon­stra­tions of its pilot­ed eVTOL air­craft at the Farn­bor­ough Inter­na­tion­al Air­show. It also announced a part­ner­ship with Hon­ey­well on Project VERTI-GO, an ini­tia­tive designed to sup­port the devel­op­ment of oper­a­tional frame­works for advanced air mobil­i­ty in Europe, com­pa­ra­ble to the FAA’s Inte­gra­tion Pilot Pro­gram in the Unit­ed States.

In addi­tion, the UK Gov­ern­ment recent­ly con­firmed a £10 mil­lion fund­ing pack­age intend­ed to sup­port the estab­lish­ment of one of Ver­ti­cal’s planned glob­al full-scale pro­duc­tion facil­i­ties in the UK, rein­forc­ing the coun­try’s ambi­tions to become a cen­tre for next-gen­er­a­tion aero­space man­u­fac­tur­ing.

Rather than focus­ing sole­ly on air­craft devel­op­ment, Ver­ti­cal’s lat­est announce­ments demon­strate the broad­er ecosys­tem required to bring elec­tric avi­a­tion into com­mer­cial ser­vice. Cer­ti­fi­ca­tion, air­port infra­struc­ture, reg­u­la­to­ry frame­works and real-world oper­at­ing envi­ron­ments all remain crit­i­cal com­po­nents of the indus­try’s path to mar­ket.

With agree­ments now span­ning gov­ern­ments, reg­u­la­tors, infra­struc­ture oper­a­tors and com­mer­cial devel­op­ers, Ver­ti­cal Aero­space con­tin­ues to expand the part­ner­ships it believes will be nec­es­sary to sup­port com­mer­cial eVTOL oper­a­tions in Europe, the Mid­dle East and beyond.
