Vertiport Simulations Completes Design Vision “Of Dual Vertiport Network At Orlando International Airport”

U.S‑based Vertiport Simulations (VS) announced this week it has completed work on its vision of a Dual Vertiport Network for Orlando International Airport (MCO), reports a press release.

The company has also constructed both Vertiport facilities as optional scenery within a Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. VS is actively “flying in and out of these facilities” utilising both simulated aircraft of Archer’s Midnight and Joby’s S‑4 eVTOLs.

The primary Vertiport at MCO is to feature an electric short takeoff and landing (eSTOL) runway; eight Final Approach and Takeoff Areas (FATO); four Skyportz Vertipads; two Cherokee Federal MVP rapidly deployable towable vertipads; as well as hanger space for more than 50 eVTOLs.

Additionally, the facility is to have a large array of solar panels able to generate enough electricity to charge both the aircraft and facility, without the need to run multiple powerlines, and rely on the local power company.

This technology is based on a platform created by Electro Aero that will save months in the planning and permitting process.

The smaller vertiport located on MCO property next to the Brightline train station, is to offer two Skyportz vertipads; a passenger terminal; and covered parking.

In recent weeks, subject to board approval, the MCO formed a shortlist of potential vendors for the contract. Only two companies were chosen: Atlantic and Signature Aviation/UrbanV Orlando.

Joe Mattern, CEO of VS, commented, “My team and I have worked tirelessly to create what we believe is our ultimate vision of a dual Vertiport Network and we hope to capture the attention of both vertiports By Atlantic and Signature Aviation in hopes of making our design a reality.”

He continued, “Over the next few months, our team will be placing a smaller vertiport design in 23 additional Florida cities shown on the ‘AAM Across Florida’ map, created by Woolpert for the Florida Department Of Transportation.”

Vertiport simulations are vital tools for the emerging Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) industry. They assist in visualising and analysing how vertiports will function and integrate in to urban environments.
