VIDEO: AutoFlight completes first eVTOL aircraft flight as part of landmark demo in Kazahkstan

AutoFlight has successfully completed the first ton-class eVTOL demonstration flight in Alatau City, Kazakhstan – marking the first eVTOL Urban Air Mobility (UAM) flight in Central Asia.

During the ceremony, Alatau Advance Air Group Ltd (AAAG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with AutoFlight for 50 more units of V2000/V5000 series eVTOL, building on an existing purchase agreement for AutoFlight’s large-scale eVTOL.

Alisher Abdykadyrov, CEO of Alatau City Authority, said: “This is more than a demonstration of a new technology. It represents a transition toward a new model of urban development, where innovation, digital transformation, and advanced mobility solutions become a new economic sector.”

AutoFlight will work closely with AAAG and Kazakh authorities to advance airworthiness certification, operational standards, and pilot training frameworks across the region.

AAAG’s momentum in Kazakhstan continues to gather pace and this milestone with AutoFlight is on top of several other key announcements made last year.

In December 2025, AAAG signed an agreement with UrbanV to design Kazakhstan’s first vertiport network.

The initiative will initially focus on the emerging Smart City of Alatau and the metropolitan area of Almaty, Kazakhstan’s largest city, to support the country’s ambition to become a leading hub for next-generation mobility in Central Asia.

The first project will be the design of a Test-Center in Alatau City, a dedicated facility that will serve as the foundational infrastructure to enable early testing and demonstration flights with eVTOL aircraft.

Additionally, AAAG strengthened this commitment by signing a Letter of Intent with Joby Aviation, to sell eVTOLs and related services valued up to $250 million

The agreement, which includes pre-delivery payments, is being supported by a parallel Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Joby and Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development.
