EHang to build new manufacturing facility in China, capable of producing 600 AAVs every year
EHang will build a new autonomous aerial vehicle (AAV) production facility in Yunfu City, Guangdong — which will initially be capable of building about 600 units every year.
Following an investment of approximately $6 million from the local government, EHang says it aims to make the facility ‘an industry-leading AAV production centre, with an R&D facility for air mobility solutions and a training centre for operations and technical talents.’
Deputy Mayor of Yunfu City, Donghong Shi, attended the launch ceremony and added that Yunfu City Government welcomes and fully supports EHang’s decision to establish its new production facility for the cutting-edge AAV products, which is expected to bring strong vitality to the local high tech communities and create hundreds of new jobs.
EHang Founder, Chairman and CEO, Huazhi Hu said: “The increasing market demands and commercialization of AAVs in China are driving us to expand our production and upgrade our manufacturing capabilities. The EHang Yunfu facility serves as an expansion of our existing facility and will support the growth of our air mobility business in China.”
EHang selected Guangzhou as its first urban air mobility (UAM) pilot city in August 2019, where it plans to establish a low-altitude aviation transportation network to shuttle passengers and goods in a safe, environmentally-friendly and cost-efficient way.
This latest news follows EHang announcing earlier this week that its 216 AAV has obtained a Special Flight Operations Certificate from Transport Canada, allowing it to perform test flights in Quebec Province.
