What’s in a Name? VoloConnect Transforms to VoloRegion

Volocopter’s marketing department recently posed the question. What exactly is its third and longer-range eVTOL, VoloConnect, connecting to… given the company’s trio of different craft are all connecting passengers or goods with their destinations, asks a company press release.

The press release continues, “Names are distinguishing features… we’ve decided to give our third aircraft, the erstwhile VoloConnect, a name more fitting of its noble mission… that extends beyond a major city’s core, reaching its suburbs and, depending on the mission in question, even further afield.”

So hail the VoloRegion. A name that nestles nicely alongside VoloCity and VoloDrone, each craft with a different roll to play.

While VoloCity, as the name suggests, focuses on short-haul flights across cities, the VoloRegion is designed, the release comments, “to serve further-flung destinations (or the wider region around a major city), including harder-to-reach places like mountain dwellings… otherwise only be accessible via time-consuming and at times treacherous roads.”

The statement then explains that after “numerous ideas and iterations from our Marketing colleagues, a name emerged that elicited internal majority approval and was market-appropriate, too. The VoloRegion was born!” Adding, “So, please, help us to welcome the (re-named) VoloRegion!”
